Return of Kenlee

Lately I've been watching All My Children. That's a lie, actually, I always watch All My Children. It's just a matter of do I watch all five episodes each week on SoapNet or do I watch one or two. I can't ever NOT watch the show since I've been thoroughly addicted to it since I was a little girl. While each soap opera has it's classic queen character who rules above all I do firmly believe AMC has the one that can kick all of their asses in the form of Susan Lucci as Erica Kane. Plus she has the most kick ass kids.



Anyway! Lately I've been watching it more often because Rebecca Budig has returned to her fabulous role of Greenlee Smythe du Pres Lavery. I think that's it. She only married two guys. My interest in her doesn't have squat to do with her marriages but instead the wonderful subtext she has with Kendall Hart whom is one of the kick ass kids of Erica Kane. Although Bianca Montgomery, the other kick ass kid of Erica Kane, is the famously out lesbian daughter and is played by the wonderful Emmy winning actress Eden Riegel I've always loved Kendall's character best. Especially once she returned to the show played by Alicia Minshew who has just the perfect mix of charm, bitchiness, vulnerability, and a pinch of maliciousness for good measure.

She's the perfect lovable bad girl in other words and when she was with Greenlee they were simply brilliant together. At one point they were unbelievably gay in the fact that Kendall was going to be the surrogate mother to Greenlee and her, supposedly, dead husband Ryan's child since Greenlee was unable to carry the baby for some reason I'm unable to recall right now. They kept referring to it as 'our baby' in conversations. So gay! It was great. Of course the writers had to ruin it and Greenlee and Kendall's friendship imploded soon after.

I'm hoping with the return of Rebecca Budig the subtext will return and so will some of the more hilarious and bitchy antics of this classic soap pairing. Oh, and for those unfamiliar with the actresses and characters Greenlee is the short one with straight brown hair and Kendall is the one who is deliciously tall and has curly hair.

Well, you should be unsatisfied. It's not like you ever finished Greener Pastures :P

(Of course, as I recall GP featured SMG Kendall instead of AM Kendall, so maybe it's for the best.)

I haven't watched in years, but I've already said why. But yeah, Minshew and Budig were hot. Even if Kendall was the most romantically dysfunctional, self-destructive woman on the planet. Has that changed? As I recall, whenever a man left her, it was so totally her fault.

No, no, Rebecca, what are you thinking? Don't go back there. It's a bad place now. Full of evil, evil things, and bad actors, and incredibly awful writing. Yes, I realize it was like that when you were there, but it's worse now. Believe me. They have KRYSTAL now.

Greener Pastures is out there with It Starts With Faith in never to ever be finished longer stories, unfortunately. Plus it's weird what with Bianca and Greenlee now cousins. Incest is never good. Even between lesbians. Sister My Sister still traumatizes some of my friends for that reason. lol.

Kendall does tend to wreck all of her relationships but that's par for the course with a lot of the likable soap girls. But she's yet to do any serious wrong that's stopped me from loving her. Especially with Alicia playing her who is just too pretty for words.

Bad writing in soaps is circular. They keep firing and rehiring crappy writers. Eventually AMC will be good again and Rebecca will benefit from the goodness. In the meantime, at least I have her fabulous chemistry with Alicia again.

I promise I'll finish Hermione/Luna fic first! lol. Pinky swear.
