Republican In Disguise
My mom called to invite me out to lunch today and since I don't have to be into work until 4 pm I happily accepted. Anyway, soon as I sit down with her at Joe's Crab Shack she lets out this hilarious excited noise and says, "Guess what I have for you?" I blinked and said no idea and she goes, "Mail!"
Which isn't unusual. Despite having not lived at home since I was 16, except for the occasional month long stints in between moving places, I use my parents house as my permanent address. Hence mail for me getting sent there all the time. She apparently saw my lack of enthusiasm over the mail and adds, "From the Republican National Committee!"
Seriously.
I don't know who got what wrong since I've consistently voted Democrat since I was 18 but they sent me a survey and referred to me as a member of the Republican party whose opinion mattered greatly to them since they were only mailing out a hundred thousand of these things versus the I forget how fucking large they said their membership in the Republican party was. I start giggling and my mom hands me a pen and says, "You should fill it out over lunch and send it back to them!" lol.
She was so amused and excited by it that it was quite cute. But it really is funny. It's just like when that poor college student came to my gay neighborhood campaigning for Bush back in 2000. I stared at him and said, "You don't understand where you are, do you?" He was perplexed and I had to explain what the rainbow flags were. Honestly, it was funny just because it was the first time I actually saw a person literally turn colors in front of my eyes. He got so grey and ashen then scurried off. lol. But my mom was all kinds of giddy about the idea of a gay Democrat filling out a Republican survey they had mistakenly sent out.
So I filled the thing out. It was an amusing survey because they kept insulting Democrats at every turn and you know, I wish I hadn't sealed the envelope because I'd just scan it and show you. Wait. Fuck that. I'll just open it and scan it and tape the envelope shut again. What's the big deal?

My favorite has to be the last question where I say, "No, I favor electing liberal Democrats over the next ten years." Hee. It was strangely satisfying to mark that as my answer. Take that silly Republicans who accidently sent me a survey! lol.
