I think I've stated on here already that I've been watching All My Children since I was around the age of seven with my mom. From the start my favorite character was the same as hers, Erica Kane, and then later that shifted to Kendall and finally Bianca with her coming out storyline.
From the start, I was never a huge fan of the character Maggie Stone. It has nothing to do with Elizabeth Hendrickson. I love her and her outrageous tiny person ways. She's pretty much made of the cute and I started watching Young & The Restless again for her. I loved Frankie, I thought she was funny and spunky and had chemistry with Bianca then they killed her and realized, well, shit, this Liz girl is good and you know, the fans seemed to like her with Eden... uhm... twin sister, lets her bring back as a twin!
I wish they had just brought Frankie back from the dead because it's not like it has never been done on soaps and on All My Children specifically because from the start Maggie struck me as boring Frankie-lite. Because of this opinion I never held a lot of fondness for the BAM ship. Especially once Lena Kundera appeared as Bianca's love interest.
Now, these days I'm big with the Reese Williams love. Without a doubt I think she's the best character, from the start, they've set up for Bianca in a romance. That opinion is shown through my inexplicable need to write the backstory of her romance with Bianca in the form of a fanfic. When it comes to fanfic I'm sadly anal retentive about research. I've been using tons of my google-fu on this fanfic to make sure I had a geographical idea of where the park they met was, their work places, their homes, the places they visit, and other such fun French facts. I've also been using the fuck out of YouTube watching old school Bianca clips to get back into her character's mannerisms and all that.
In the process I've watched a lot, lot, lot, lot, lot, lot, of Bianca and Maggie scenes.
I've already said I wasn't a big fan of Maggie's character but she did grow on me as I watched the show. Despite her random freaking out on Bianca first because of Bianca's attraction to her then her own attraction to Bianca she was a really great friend and was one of the rocks for Bianca during her rape crisis and subsequent pregnancy besides Kendall and David. And the scenes Liz did with Eden during that storyline rocked the house greatly. So I grew to like Maggie but I had a distaste for BAM as a ship and not because I thought Lena was vastly superior as a love interest.
No, mostly I was turned off by a really sort of scary rabid BAM fanbase. One that was honestly very insulting to Lena's character and hellbent on the idea that Maggie was Bianca's forever one true pairing soulmate and ohmygodfuckingdestroyanywhointerfere! Thus I didn't like the ship and it created somewhat of an irrational dislike relating back to Maggie's character which was unfortunate and petty of me.
But on watching these old clips with Bianca and Maggie I realized that I let a few nutty over enthusiastic shippers ruin a nice couple for me. Maggie is still boring to me at some points but never when she's with Bianca and they do have really fucking coupley moments. I'm starting to finally see what those shippers saw in the two of them and so, I decided to watch my old chosen ship of back then, Lianca, or Lena and Bianca.
Poor Lena didn't hold up so well.
It's weird. I love Olga Sosnovska on Spooks. She's a great actress but when I watched those old clips I winced at her accent as Lena. The more clips I watched of Lena and Bianca then Maggie and Bianca I found myself liking Maggie far more with Bianca. Which is the complete opposite of my opinion when these scenes originally aired.
The basis of Bianca and Lena's relationship still is great to me because it's a classic soap storyline. The con artist who falls in love with their mark because of how kind and sweet that mark is and then tortures themselves over what they've done and are going to do to them. It's full of drama and the exact same storyline played on All My Children but with less sinister corporate overtones with Leo and Greenlee. Now, some people didn't like Lena because they thought Bianca had just gone through this with Frankie but it wasn't the same. Frankie wasn't in town specifically to scam Bianca. She just got tangled up with Bianca's cuteness along the way. Lena set out to seduce Bianca then ended up falling in love, for the very first time, as characters often declare when it comes to Bianca.
Even Reese has claimed that one. ::sigh:: Reese. Sorry! lol. I love Tamara. Back to Lena and Bianca babbling analyzation.
I was happy the lesbian character was given the same sort of treatment as a straight character in that they were giving her such a tried and true soap storyline to work with. It gave me a degree of hope just like how the easy and affectionate interaction between Bianca and Reese on the show currently gives me hope. In comparison to the irritating I like Bianca but, oh noes, I can't because I'm straight endlessly exhausting story going on with Maggie I much preferring Lena's angstified corporate spying ways.
But now when I watch the basic relationship clips between Bianca and Lena I find myself slightly bored and oddly annoyed by her accent whereas when I watch the ones with with Bianca and Maggie I'm charmed in a similar way to how I am when watching Bianca with Reese. It's really quite strange to me. Is it like my subject line and time improves all ships? Or maybe the distance from the shippers who bugged me over the years has allowed me to see their relationship more clearly? Who knows. Very weird though.
Anyway! Here are the clips I promised for some compare contrast on the couples.
Lena reads Shakespeare to a pregnant Bianca and helps her think up Mimo's name. A cute coupley scene but I found more cuteness with the Maggie scenes that come later.
Here's a direct compare/contrast to Bianca/Maggie interaction and Bianca/Lena as it starts with Bianca and Maggie then Lena appears and you can gauge for yourself who has better chemistry. Personally I love Maggie feeding Bianca for it is made of the cute.

And speaking of angsty, their last scene together. Liz actually got to give Eden a decent kiss and it's their last scene together! lol. So wrong. I wonder if she's envious of Tamara for getting to mack on Eden so much? I'm thinking yes for some reason.
I've decided to end the Maggie and Bianca love with some early relationship clips in. My favorite being 4:47 minutes in when Maggie references Bianca's tatas and boom booms. Ahhhh, great with the funny compliments Maggie. But Binks is bangin' in that dress.
I'm not posting any Bianca and Reese scenes because, well, I have tons of those already posted on my LJ. You can find them really easily by following the amc tag. I was considering doing another post with more videos of all the various Bianca love interests from Sarah to Reese and posting that later though. Hmm. In the meantime, Kenlee! We can't have video clips without Kenlee for they are subtext!
Kendall declaring her love and kissing Greenlee in a decidedly unsexy way that Bianca wouldn't approve of. Seriously, Kendall, you get around and so does Greenlee. I expected a better kiss from you two. Disappointing but hilarious.
Since Kendall is having Greenlee's baby of course she can guilt trip her into singing karaoke in a white trash bar. It just makes sense. I love this scene. It's so much of why they rock as a fake couple.
Finally, their love is made of lotion fights! Back in the days when Kendall and Greenlee weren't so huggy. Their love has always been on the bitchy side and that's probably why I adore them so. Get off me! No! Hee.
And last but not least, though it could be ruined thanks to the stupidity of the sperm donor daddy situation, we have the best relationship of all: Kinks! You know, I wonder at times if Alicia and Eden know how gay they play their sisterly love. Honestly. lol.
Starting Kinks off with the pregnancy reveal. It's one of their major moments and there's so much love with Bianca explaining Kendall is a major reason why she wants to keep her baby and their sit on the floor hug at the very end.
Now onto the drama. Kendall has just lied to Ryan about being the one pregnant with Michael Cambias' baby and Bianca suspects Kendall is just using her and her pregnancy to screw over her ex-boyfriend and get the Cambias cash. Kendall freaks out in such a very delicious dramatic way then begs Bianca to love and understand her.
Bianca's pregnant and Kendall is helping her hide it but Ryan is an asshole and because he's an asshole and he keeps harassing Bianca about being pregnant with Michael's baby for the sake of the stupid Cambias will. They want to hide the pregnancy because Bianca doesn't want Miranda to grow up with the stigma of being known as the child of a rapist like Kendall did and awwww, they're so fucking cute with their scheming!
Giggle at Binks trying to form a shocked expression on cue 5:03 into the video and Kendall unable to contain her amusement at how horrible her little sis is at acting. Cuuuuute! Too bad Ryan shows up at the end and forces Bianca to pretend to hate her sister. Grrr, Ryan.
This clip starts off with some Zach talking to a comatose Bianca and crushing on her hardcore as does everyone in the known Pine Valley universe at some time or another then Kendall shows up four minutes in for some please come back to me I can't live without you pleadings and then climbs into bed to give forehead kisses.
And finally, an assembly of Kendall clips, a great deal of which focus on her relationship with Bianca because from all evidence Kendall loves Bianca more than anything in the world. Not an out there statement when you consider she knew all along Bianca murdered Michael Cambias and was willing to keep quiet and go to death row to keep her sister and niece safe from prosecution. My favorite besides the adorable scenes in the beginning is Kendall going off on Erica when Bianca goes missing. Awww, angry sister love!
