Watch This! Eurovision 2009
The weekend of May 14-16 is when Eurovision 2009 airs and I can't wait. All the participants have been chosen and because I'm a sad freak of a fangirl about this song contest I'm posting videos for the entries I deem quality. What is quality? It's anything that's just fabulous and makes me giggle. I also love the super gay entries. There's a few honestly great songs in here as well.
Ukraine: Be My Valentine (Anti-crisis Girl) by Svetlana Loboda
This is a perfect example, other than Ruslana who is my Eurovision true love, why I adore the Ukraine's entries in this contest. Seriously. They always bring the win.
Switzerland: The Highest Heights by The Lovebugs
The lead singer looks like Kurt Cobain and it disconcerts me. Other than that, I like this entry. It's soothing but catchy.
Montenegro: Just Get Out Of My Life by Andrea Demirovic
Eurovision is gay and that's why I love it. So is this entry and it is three snaps fabulous people. So great.
Latvia: Probka by Intars Busulis
There hasn't been an indy type entry in awhile. This one counts and something about this guy amuses me. Maybe his facial expressions? I dunno. I like him though.
Serbia: Cipela by Marko Kon & Milaan
Four words: pimp afro, pimp voice.
Ireland: Et Cetera by Sinéad Mulvey & Black Daisy
The Go Gos return. That's totally what I thought when I started listening to this one. I'm not sure it has the legs to get many votes but I'm surprised Ireland is entering this.
Albania: Carry Me In Your Dreams by Kejsi Tola
The video is hella boring but I like her voice. It's really booming and in a good way. But dude, crappy video. Poor Albania and their cheap special effects and boring nature shots.
Sweden: La Voix by Malena Ernman
She is both fierce and frightening.
Estonia: Rändajad by Urban Symphony
Pretty string section, hot lead singer who makes no expressions, and haunting voices. Winning combination.
Spain: La Noche Es Para Mi by Soraya
For some reason she reminds me of Kate Ryan. Hopefully she fares better because I like her.
Finland: Lose Control by Waldo's People
Lordi has made Finland interesting in their entry choices. I think this appeals to me only because it's homeless people singing techno and one is just lying in a heap on the street.
Armenia: Jan Jan by Inga & Anush
It's entries like this why I love Eurovision. Songs that are pop and fun and fabulous but they still have the clear cultural influence from their countries. Plus I like Armenia. They've been sending good entries since they joined in 2006.
Slovenia: Love Symphony by Quartissimo feat. Martina
I like how minimalist this is. How it's mostly the kick ass strings then she only starts significantly singing at the end.
Greece: This Is Our Night by Sakis Rouvas
I'm posting this because it's gay and amuses me.
Turkey: Düm Tek Tek by Hadise
I dunno what it is with Turkey and Ukraine. I always love their entries. This one is no exception. Belly dancing! lol.
Romania: The Balkan Girls by Elena
"The Balkan Girls they like to party like nobody, like nobody."
For this line alone, I love this entry. lol. Such quality.
Thus ends my list of favorites and notables for the Eurovision Song Contest 2009! The ones not included I found boring and you know how boring and Eurovision goes... well, it doesn't win and it's not why I watch. It's all about the quality and the gay. Eurovision rocks it.
Honestly, I adore this song contest. I wish USA would grow a brain and join up already. I can just imagine the wailing and tears when we're lame and decide to send our American Idol winner to Eurovision instead of sending someone with talent and getting our asses handed to us. I sort of look forward to it. lol. I also wish Japan or Korea would join too because there's no way they wouldn't win within the first five years of entering they're so batshit awesome and crazy with their pop music and that's what the Eurovision audience loves.
