When I found out that Bryan Singer was going to be absent as the director for the third X-Men movie I was somewhat nerdy fangirl heartbroken because I think he did such a fucking brilliant job in the first two movies. Some of the hardcore comic fanboys and girls bitched about the movies saying that they didn't follow comic book canon close enough but dude, I think that's a good thing. If the movies would've followed the comics exactly they would have been fantastically unrealistic in terms of putting the characters in the real world.

It might sound lame but the reason that I, and countless others, love the X-Men is because of the persecution they face by simply being alive and who they are. The stories that are told through the X-Men are ones of tolerance and hope and all that bleeding heart crap but told in a fucking kick ass way that involves explosions and cool powers. Anyway, that kick ass explosion filled message of tolerance would have been missed by the general public if they had followed the comics exactly and put Wolverine in a ridiculous looking yellow spandex outfit. I honestly feel most of the changes made in the movies did increase the amount of non-comic book fans who saw them. Which is a good thing to me because I think everyone should know of their inate coolness.

The X3 announcement trailer was just released and I was reluctant to watch it. I even discussed with Pat my worries that the movie will truly suck ass. This opinion came from the fact that Marvel Comics worst character actress, Halle Berry, is reprising her role of Sucky Imposter Midget Short Storm and Kelsey Grammer of all people was cast as Dr. Hank McCoy aka the super huggy Beast. While I'm sure that Halle is going to be painfully horrible as Storm yet again, the trailer made me wonder if maybe Kelsey isn't going to be as bad as I thought in this role. Though the only reason I think this is because he looks so utterly perfect as Beast with his furriness and blue makeup.

I don't know how X3 is going to be in terms of how the story is written but my god it looks fucking good enough in this trailer that I lamely forgot to breath for a second while watching it. Pat, you really have to tell me what you think about this trailer. The beauty of the filmmaking and the special effects shown in it has me totally caught up in hardcore X-Men fangirl fever. To this day I worship Jean Grey above all other comic book characters and I continue to harbor a lame crush on her, and Famke Janssen for portraying her so perfectly, and the fact that Jean looks utterly beautiful frightening kick ass in this trailer has me squee with excitement. I really hope this trailer isn't like a lot of them out there and turns out to be better than the actual movie.

But even if that is the case I really think nothing can take away my nerdy joy at seeing Jean freakily wake up in the X-Mansion medical ward and proceed to bad ass mechanically walk towards the super reinforced doors while blowing them off as easily as you would a chain link fence.

Here's the link to the X3 Trailer I've been mindlessly fangirl gushing about:

EDITED TO ADD: Pat! You have to check out the official promotional photo and imdb page for Kitty's actress. I think the did a great job with casting her. She really looks the part:

And dude, you have to look closely towards the end of the trailer because I totally think they're using that fight scene at Jean's parents house from Uncanny X-Men #135. At least I think it's from issue #135. Anyway, if it's true I squee again in pure nerdy delight.

If you haven't noticed my fluctuating avatars lately, I've added a few of them that feature one of my all time favorite TV shows, Mystery Science Theater 3000 otherwise known as the shortened version MST3K by its legions of nerdy internet fans. If you don't know of MST3K then I'll try to explain it for you...

Wait a minute. Why the hell should I explain what the show is about when their theme song does it perfectly for me? Whee! Another music link away!

Get what the show is about now? No? Not really? Still confused? Too bad! I'm lazy and that theme song should've explained it for you. lol. But to get back to MST3K, I recently got some dvds of the show for Christmas and one of them features the movie Attack Of The Giant Leeches which is a typical cheesy horror/sci-fi movie from the 50s or 60s.

The movie takes place in a small town in a backwater swamp area where, surprise surprise, giant leeches are killing the redneck populous. The residents are just hilariously inbred stupid hoosier stereotypes which Joel and the robots totally pick up on and mock throughout the episode. Even going so far as to write and perform a song about the residents hillbilly nature during one of their intermission breaks. I found the song so funny I wanted to share.
