Despite not being at all trendy and therefore feeling often very out of place in their gay and lesbian community, I often miss living in LA. Mostly because of the music scene which is excellent. It was really great to live in that area and know because of my music whore status on any given night I could go out and see live music from a variety of bands for fairly reasonable rates.

Part of that love also related to the awesome radio station, KCRW, which is well known for playing kick ass music and releasing affordable live cd recordings of the performances artists give at their station.

I just bought the live cd performance from Skye Edwards, the former vocalist for Morcheeba, and my how it kicks ass. I really want to see her live now, her music sounds that much prettier.

My next purchase was the self titled cd by Fauxliage which combines the band Delerium with the vocals of Leigh Nash from Sixpence None The Richer. Both bands that I enjoy immensely. Their music is really beautiful and ethereal.

Then, last but not least, I got the epic twenty eight track Virgin Voices: A Tribute To Madonna. I love cover songs and I especially love tribute albums for my favorite artists and Madonna is most definitely amongst them. I still need to get the two disc David Bowie tribute album but it's expensive and hard to find. But it's Bowie! So worth it. Anyway, here are a few wonderfully mellow selections from that.

I especially enjoy Kristy Thirsk's vocals on the Front Line Assembly cover of Justify My Love. Though Dale Bazzio from Missing Persons did a wonderfully schizophrenic cover of Into The Groove which cracks me up. I swear it sounds like an insane person put it together. lol. I love it so. Like A Prayer by Bigod 20 is also compelling to me. I'm not sure why, I think I just love the combination restrained sing-yelling that's strangely computerized in the vocalization. Hmm.
