I'm a music whore, right? lol. This had been made more than clear and this week I've been lucky to get some great new music that I feel like sharing with the like... .0000001% of the populous who read this crap. lol. Lucky you or something.
Well, technically one of the songs I'm linking isn't new because I'm a HUGE Dolly Parton fan and I've had the song Travelin' Thru on my playlist since she released it. But in case some of you don't know, the fabulous Ms. Parton will be performing this song at the Oscars because it's one of the three song nominees. Which is odd to me. Usually they have more than three nominees but whatever. I don't really give a shit about the Oscars but I do give a shit about Dolly and I can't wait to see her perform this song live. Yay! I really hope she wins because, my god, Dolly would give the most kick ass acceptance speech ever. Hee. I would so love to hear that.

I live next to this local music store called Vintage Vinyl and I was wandering around there and I randomly decided to buy a cd from this band called Arab Strap. I liked how their cd cover looked and I really liked the sample of their song Stink that I got to hear so I picked up the cd for ten bucks. It was definitely ten dollars well paid. They have a fucking super mellow sound and it's mesmerizing as hell and very understated angsty. I love shit like that. I'm definitely going to have to link something from them for ATWH because it totally fits. This is my favorite track currently.

It seems like I ordered cds from lovely ladies of Eurovision that are the contest winners Ruslana, Sertab, and Elena fucking years ago but they just arrived this past week. Since I've already ranted about Eurovision here to really sad levels I figured I should do some linking of the new songs I have from them. First off is Ruslana because Pat has admitted to me that he loves Ruslana nearly as much as I do. lol. This song doesn't start off with the splendiferous Xena style hunting horns but they do play in the song. It's probably the most heavy and sort of strangely dark sounding songs on the cd. I enjoy the drums and the horns and the whispery way Ruslana sings a lot of the lyrics. Sexy. I love her so. It is a really fucking sexy song in my opinion. lol. But I'm a weirdo who loves pop music. She also does a wee bit of the panting in the song. I'm serious! Listen for it.

String instruments are the shit in Sertab's music, I think. I love how she incorporates them and I need to remember to make a copy of her cd for Astrid and give it to her. I also need to talk in here about how I went out to dinner with Astrid and Michi and we ran into Suzanna and that was ehhh... interesting? Yeah, that works. Michi had no idea how high maintenance a lot of my ex-gfs are though. It freaked her out. lol. But anyway! String instruments are great with Sertab. Unlike Ruslana's song this is a very light and sort of hypnotic song in the way that the whistle, I dunno what it is, but it keeps playing rhythmically in the background. Sertab is all over with the ohhhh ahhhhh's and she does another mini rap type of dialogue towards the end. lol. I just love it when she does that for some reason. She also has the huh huh chanting at the end. It's a very light sort of take on the woman talking to her man about what he must do to get and keep her love. Usually those songs tend to be a bit threatening towards the poor guy. lol. This one isn't. I like that somehow.

This might be really wrong, especially considering how much I truly love Elena's voice and her divalicious way of performing her songs with the great hand gestures and sexy stance, but the reason I'm picking this song to link is it immediately reminded me of I'm Okay by Kimber & Stormer from Jem and The Holograms which I consider to be like... the epitome of fucking blatant slash. My god. It's SO fucking gay. But this is about Elena! lol. Despite that being the reason I'm linking this song it is totally good in its own merits. I like the weird sort of da da chicka da da rap this guy goes into the song halfway through. Plus the guitar is fucking awesome. And it's definitely one of Elena's more upbeat songs. It doesn't quite give the full fabulous range of her voice but I love it all the same. Hrmmm... okay. Heh. I admit, I'm short changing Elena by just linking this. That's why I'm now going to link Let's Get Wild also. That song is a little harder and way sexier. Plus Elena gets that great sort of bitchy diva low tone in her inflection. Fucking hot, if you ask me. And I just found a video of her performing the song live! Hahaha. Even hotter. I wish she had danced more though. But my god, her looks! lol. Okay. I'm stopping. But so pretty, honestly.

Last but not least! lol. It's so sad that I think that, isn't it? Yeah, fucking sad. But anyway. I was telling
tocopherol about Jem and The Holograms earlier and how The Misfits are how I got into punk music. But seriously? I love this fucking cartoon and I swear, it's filled to the brim with lesbian subtext. Especially the episode where Kimber leaves The Holograms and Stormer leaves The Misfits because they're misunderstood and underappreciated by both bands. Then they fucking team up together and write this utterly horrible lame ass song but it's MY GOD GAY and they're so clearly crushing on each other. It's fabulous. I'm fucking pissed off that they haven't released the last dvd for the series so I can have this damn episode. Plus The Stingers! Sting... sting... Stingers! Haha. Fucking lame, that band was. But I loved them. The lead singer was way cooler than Rio at least.
Anyway, the quality of this song isn't as good because it's from a cartoon. In terms of the actual lyrics and how it's sort of garbled but it's hilarious. I just love how 90% of the song is just them singing over and over that "I'm okay" I mean, jeebus! rofl. So repetitive. Hahaha. But what was really good was the song that The Holograms and The Misfits sang together about how Kimber and Stormer shouldn't be together. Oh fuck. I have to link that too. They go together! I can't link one without the other.
All right people. You have to listen to I'm Okay first and then Bad Influence. Because I'm Okay is chronologically released first in the episode and then The Holograms and The Misfits get all pissy that Kimber and Stormer have left their groups so they sing Bad Influence trying to crush their love affair and to also try and get them to come back to their original bands. Bad Influence is a MILLION times better than I'm Okay because it has The Misfits singing in it. lol. Pizzazz is fucking gold in this song.
Best thing is the end line from Pizzazz. En quote, "She's no good for you, baby." Just the way she says it is just hilarious. But the overall lyrics in Bad Influence are definitely the funniest thing. They made the song so goddamn gay with how they sing about how wrong Kimber and Stormer are for each other. I giggle just thinking about it.
Ahhhh. I love the 80's. I love Jem and The Holograms. And I worship The Misfits.

tocopherol about random shit but I was talking about another nerdy love of mine which is Sweet Valley High and you know, there's kick ass fucking slash fic for the book series by Kanna Ophelia. Lila/Jessica and Enid/Elizabeth. My favorite character in the books was Jessica because the bitch and bad girl is always way more fun to read about. Plus Elizabeth is hella boring and uptight at times. But anyway! I posted in there about SVH which led me to finally download the theme song for the short lived SVH tv show, which is done by the glorious Fisher I might add, and I also found out NOFX does a cover of the song which is fucking hilarious. And goddammit I must link this shit!
