Since I'm a lazy ass I'm just going to repost what I wrote on MediaBlvd about L Word S3 finale. Here it goes!
I'm the type who prefers to focus on the positive and not the negative so I'm just going to write about the two things in the season finale which I enjoyed or at the very least intrigued me. And because of my sad f*cking status as an Alice fangirl it has to start with whatever the hell is going on between her and Lara. Actually, I take it back. I think I know what's going on there right now but where IC will take it in S4 is anyone's guess. Alice and Lara kissing and having sex is something I thought I would have this odd instant repellant feeling on seeing it but honestly? Nothing. Yep, nothing at all. No happy, no sad, no oooh, no ewww, nada.
Alice and Lara have obviously become a source of solace for one another but only in a physical manner. Whether emotional development between them happens in S4, again, is up to IC. But since they did have Lara reveal previously unknown facts about her family to Alice it's entirely possible we might be getting that in S4. Or at least more character development for Lara. Yeahhh, didn't we say that when we found out about her and Dana in S3? Didn't happen then either. I'm not sure I can see her character expanding simply because Lara has been given countless chances to become more developed and each time the writers f*cking gloss her over and she ends up this sort of stereotype of a nice lesbian gf. But hey, they glossed over Dana the same way.
At first I was sure I would loathe Alice and Lara as a couple but I honestly don't. There's just nothing there. I don't get any spark from them but look at what they've been through, you know? The woman they're both in love with has died and they're going through what will be a long period of grief. It's hard to have a fiery and passionate affair in such circumstances. Their connection is one of sadness and understanding. It's honestly hard to hate something like that. I don't like them as a couple and I don't hate them. It's basically a totally neutral feeling that I have about Alice and Lara and that's not a good thing. I mean, the last thing you want on a television show is to have people not feel anything about your characters and couples and that's my basic reaction to Alice and Lara. See nada from paragraph one above.
So I honestly can't picture them as a couple but how they're developing their relationship is intriguing to me. At this point I'd really like for Alice and Lara to end up good friends for S4 simply because of the understanding they've obviously formed in terms of losing Dana. Besides, even though I do find Lara rather boring she is sincere and sweet and she would make a good friend for Alice. And damn and curse the world, I really f*cking want to know what she had to say to Alice. Stupid boring Tina. Why did you interrupt? Bah.
When I read the spoilers about Peggy cutting Helena off from the family money I got an instant moment of hatred for her despite how very much Holland Taylor rocks in that role. Then I saw Losing The Light and I suddenly couldn't picture Peggy doing that to Helena because of how good she was to her daughter in that meeting with the lawyers. But the events leading up to Peggy cutting off Helena and the manner in which she did it? It was gentle and kind and most of all she explained perfectly and without any doubt exactly WHY she was doing it. Thus proving that Peggy rocks just as much as her actress does. Though I love Alice above all others what I'm looking forward to seeing the most in S4 is Helena standing on her own two feet. I agree completely that this will be such a very good thing for Helena because it's definitely going to show her who her real friends are perhaps for the first time in her life.
Plus as a huge Helacious hopeful the idea of Helena crashing with Alice due to lack of funds is just an opportunity for so much fun. lol. Both humorous and romantic alike. I also think Peggy cutting her off will help Helena develop some wariness in trusting people with her money as well as a chance to learn how to manage it better. I don't really expect her to be living with Alice or for her to have a pauper existence. She does own the movie studio and Dylan returned that extortion check along with giving Helena the rights to her movie. That puts Helena in decent financial standing.
As a Danish fan I'm not happy with S3 but as a Alice, Helena, and Helacious fan I will be watching S4. But when the spoilers start coming out for that season I'm guessing I'll be repeating what Alice said to a shell shocked Helena at the end of this episode, "It's okay. It's okay."
Yeah, Al. Here's to hoping.
