I get into work at 8 a.m. and Tunye is here and she starts telling me her continuing ordeal with the huge ass tree that's wrecked her house. They can't get in the house, she has two outfits to wear, there's still no electricity, and they have no idea where they're going to stay each night. That's the worst part of the ordeal. Well, that and the fact they had no idea when the insurance adjuster was going to come look at their house or pay for a hotel.

Being a lame ass my mind starts working and I figure, hell, get her a hotel gift certificate so they have someplace to stay. I get online while we talk and find one through hotels.com that should arrive fairly quickly 1-2 days through email and decided to buy it. Heather, our boss, comes in and I tell her of my idea to get a certificate for $150 so they at least have a clean place to stay.

She thinks it's a good idea and decides to pitch in. I tell her to tell Tunye herself since I'm bad at at that crap. Heather talks to Tunye about the whole huge ass tree crushing her house experience and then comes to me when she's on the phone saying she wants to talk to Jason, Jeff, and Chuck to see if they want to contribute as well. I buy the gift certificate.

Ten minutes later Tunye's mother calls, it's her house that got crushed, and says she talked to the insurance company and they're sending two adjusters immediately, paying for the hotel, and writing her an emergency check. So yeah... my gift certificate seems moot now.

I'm sure we'll still be giving it to her but I dunno what good it is now. Hence the title of this post. You know, dumbass charity. A gift card to Walmart would be more useful now. Bah.

ETA: They've been booked at the Sheraton in one of the pimp suites and the insurance company is paying for the entire stay so I went ahead and cancelled the hotels.com gift certificate. I'm still debating on the Walmart gift card. I'm still thinking that might be a good idea because they can get food with it or whatever so I think that might be good.

nonetheless it was a really nice idea and gesture. and maybe they can use it when they have to get other things fixed or just want to get away from their house for a day or two.

I cancelled it. lol. I might do a Walmart gift card but who knows. I'm feeling very inept at emergency gift giving now.

well, they will need stuff that got destroyed or they might have to replace some things that won't be covered by their insurance company.
I still think it is a nice idea, and Walmart or some other multi-stuff store would work as well.
