Haha, seems I'm in disagreement with you about a lot of things when it comes to The L Word. I fucking hate Jenny -- there have been times in the show when I liked her (such as the beginning of season 1, and the beginning of season 3), but for the most part, I think it seems like the writers are trying to make her as unlikable as possible. She was such an unbelievable bitch in season 4 and the season 5 premier, and so different from the character she started out as, that I couldn't believe that the writers were serious. I kinda hope they either kill her off, or give her a personality transplant (again) so that she goes back to being even remotely likable.
As far as Bette/Tina and Bette/Jodi go...I'm actually a Bette/Tina shipper, not because I'm a huge fan of Tina (I can see how some would find her boring), but because I absolutely love Bette and I think her being with Tina adds an interesting dynamic to her character. I don't know why I like them together, I just do. And I like the idea that they could get back together now that they've both changed and grown up, and they can raise their daughter and finally have a truly healthy/loving relationship. I guess I'm just a hopeless romantic that way. XD
Jodi and Bette can be interesting as a couple -- especially in the hot sub/dom bondage scene from the season 5 premier -- but something about them just doesn't seem real to me. Maybe it's because I know that Jennifer Beals and Marlee Matlin are such good friends, and this gives me the impression that their characters have no real spark or chemistry.
I do agree with you that the "Tasha being investigated for homosexual conduct" storyline seems cliche as hell -- really, I'm tired of episodes of The L Word serving as public service announcements. They kind of did that with Moira/Max when they tried to bring awareness about trans issues (and didn't really succeed that well), and in Season 4 when Shane and Paige were trying to convince Shay and Paige's son (and their elementary school class) that "being gay is okay!". I think it's cool that they're trying to bring certain issues to light, but they could be more original and more subtle about it.
And I agree with you that it's great that they've highlighted Alice and Bette's friendship. They seem to concentrate a lot on the friendship between Shane and Jenny, and a few other people, but Alice and Bette have always seemed to not get along in seasons past. They used to date, after all (even if it was only for a little while), so I think it's important to see them being friends now.
And they totally need to reference Dana more. I'm glad they kind of did with Bette's "Alice doesn't need to go through this again" line, but really...Dana was one of their best friends, and now they hardly ever mention her. I hate it when TV shows do that after killing off characters.
I'm really hoping for a good season 5...we'll see how it goes. :)
