Do you mind updating? Reading this entire story in one go would be a terrible waste of time if you won't update, right?

This feedback both annoys and perplexes me. Sure it's more polite than the average demand for me to write fanfic but what the hell does someone who hasn't read my fic, as this post implies, care if I update it? How do they know the fic is worth updating? And just because I hate it when people demand updates, even politely, I must give a response of I'll update when I feel like it and/or have the fucking time.

[livejournal.com profile] meingeheimnis do you get a lot of this? You take longer than me to update though I have been really lax due to a warped amount of drama at my little ink store involving loss prevention issues and employee theft accusations as well as a tiring new store set up. But still! It's a damn hobby, I don't get paid to write Luna and Hermione fanfic and if I did update I would just get people bitching at me how they haven't kissed yet and I end all my chapters in cliffhangers.

Can you tell I feel grumpy? Because I do feel grumpy. Like a smurf. Except less blue and miniature and living in a fungus house. Blerh.

On the up side, I'm terribly amused by my emo inspired Marty Moon icon from Gil Thorp. That's an actual cut from one of the comic strips and it's a pretty accurate assessment for how all the other characters in that series feel about him. While he is amusing to read about he is also damn annoying.

So more grumpy like a dwarf? They're less miniature, not at all blue, and live in a normal house, which they leave to go to a job of drudgery in the mines, only to return for lots of non-heterosexual subtext.

Of course, you COULD just reply to the fic-beggars that you'll gladly write an update, whenever they want, as long as you get (however many hours it usually takes to write*your hourly wage at the ink store+$5 for gas money). But that would be impolite.

And shouldn't the plural of Smurf be Smurves?

I hadn't realized that there were people who actually leave comments like that, and then expect for you to be okay with that. (how rude?!)

Then again, I suppose it's better than getting flamed for the lamest things. lol

Sorry to hear you got that comment, and I hope that doesn't deter you from continuing with the series!

On the other hand, there are those of us who love your work so much, that we will wait patiently for the next chapter. It may be agony, but it is an exquisite agony because we know that your work is worth waiting for.
Take all the time you need Hon. Your true fans are a patient and understanding lot.

Don't let anonymous asshats (like me, minus the demanding of more fic. Sorry!) get to you. These people just want quantity, not quality; your work is quality.

Let them learn to sit on their damn hands, wait a little while, and learn to appreciate excellent writing.

i do get a lot of it, at least in comments. for the most part, i just take it as a compliment... just sort of an annoying one at times.
i've always supplied reasons and i don't get annoyed, it just makes me want to write less... like some days i'll be planning to write and then someone is "update?" and then i just sort of lose interest in writing that day...
