I saw this today with my brother. Here are a few spoilery thoughts on the matter.

I'm not sure what I expected. Everyone I know who saw it raved about the effects and most of them had minimal complaints about the derivative plot. Myself? I'm not really a picky movie or television critic. I will admit that the plot is like throwing in Dances With Wolves, Ferngully: The Last Rainforest, and Call Me Joe into a blender and calling it a day. I also don't think James Cameron is a genius for creating this movie.

However, it was very enjoyable to watch. I didn't even notice how long it was and as two dimensional as the characters are under examination, I don't much care. I still like them.

Long story short, the plot isn't brilliant, the effects are super pretty, and it's totally immersive. I think it's very much a great movie going experience. It's not often a movie is almost three hours long and doesn't seem to drag out and cause boredom in my tiny brain. The movie is just not, to me anyway, this super genius affair some people might claim it is. I will be buying it on dvd when it comes out though. Oh, and even though seeing movies in 3D makes me dizzy and slightly nauseous at the best of times it was worth seeing it in 3D. I'm also tempted to see Alice In Wonderland in 3D after seeing the preview that way.

Oh yeah, why did Sigourney Weaver AND Michelle Rodriguez have to die? The pretty! I cried inside. I wish there was some way to slash them in that movie since I crush on them both but it would be damn hard to achieve.
