I love Eurovision and I'm bouncing around with excitement for the show. I can't wait to watch it live finally and hear Terry Wogan's gloriously sarcastic commentary and watch the over the top fabulous performances. I'm steadfast in my belief that Silvia Night and Lordi will have the most entertaining acts by way of my opinion and those of my friends.

To celebrate the upcoming Eurovision 2006 I've decided to link some of my favorite classic Eurovision songs. Some of this stuff is seriously old school and runs the gamut of being hilarious, truly haunting, and plain kick ass. At least those are my thoughts. Music link powers activate!

Man, that was nerdy. And stupid. The Wonder Twins suck.

Puppet On A String by Sandie Shaw:

This is a cover of an awesome Elvis song but the goofy way Sandie covers it almost makes me associate the song solely with her. I just find it too fucking funny, especially with the toots and the bells and various sound effects. This song never fails to make me giggle.

Boom Bang A Bang by Lulu:

http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=7053C9DD28A6758B

Like the song above it, this is very much a happy and melodic song. I do admit it's fucking cheesy but what the fuck, I'm a cheesy dyke. I have the Rock Hudson and Doris Day dvd collection, what the hell do you people expect from me? Not much, I would hope.

L'Amour Est Bleu by Vicky Leandros:

http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=CEF12B3A19076274

I'm someone who can absolutely adore music without understanding one fucking word of it. Meaning that lyrics alone don't make the music for me. The melody and the way the song is sung is a huge part of why I like certain songs and artists. That's why I'm such a fucking international music whore because I don't let my lame ass linguistic ignorance stand in the way of me digging a song. I love this song by Vicky Leandros because her voice is so mesmerizing and soothing and just perfect.

Nocturne by Secret Garden:

When I spoke about haunting I had this song in mind. Honestly, there's nothing better to describe this as. The instrumentals are beautiful and Gunnhild Tvinnereim's voice is killer. Sucks that she's not actually a part of the group.

Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi by Celine Dion:

http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=DEDB29DC5AFAED70

It's Celine. Need anything more be said? Love her or hate her one must admit she has one fucking hell of a voice and the freakiest Las Vegas show on Earth. Seriously, it's way freaky. I encourage anyone who is near Vegas to go see it. I can't properly explain the how or why of its coolness but it honestly does strangely kicks ass in the fact that you sit through the entire show in a marveling "what the fuck is happening" state.

Julie by Daniel:

http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=0DD5DCE0649C9E52

Part of me thinks I'm only linking this song simply because of the way he sings Julie. "Juuuuuuuuuleeeeeeeee... ohhh juuuuuuleeeeeeeeeeeee." Hee. I find it amusing plus there's something about this song that makes me bounce in my computer chair. I know, I'm nerdy. I've accepted it and if you've been reading this LJ for more than a week so should you.

Love Isn't Love by Carola:

http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=CB2F7A852E791536

She turned out to be a homophobe. Her music still is groovy though. Despite her being ignorant. Or perhaps because she's ignorant? lol. Who knows. I still like this song.

Viva Sport by Dafna:

http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=C488514071978A1E

I used to play soccer, right? I was never very into it. Not on the level I'm into Roller Derby anyway. But considering how crazy Europe and the rest of the world is about soccer I think this song had to be played somewhere at a soccer game. lol. This is probably the coolest sports oriented song I've heard in awhile.

Mata Hari by Anne Karina:

http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=B5A9BF385F5AD7C0

Listening to this song puts me in a hippy colored den that's not all flower child but is set up like old school womanizer ala those Rock Hudson and Doris Day movies I talked about earlier. I dunno why that's my reaction to it but there you go.

Ding A Dong by Teach-In:

http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=19D19AC40CE9B809

"Try to a sing a song that goes ding ding a dong. There will be no sorrow, when you sing tomorrow and you walk along with your ding ding dong. Ding and dong every hour. When you pick a flower. Even your lover is gone gone gone."

Must I say more about why this is my favorite fucking song on this list? I saved the best for last with this song and not only do the lyrics make me giggle constantly, it's a nice little diddy that is indeed good to sing along with. I really do challenge anyone to remain pissed off listening to this song. I don't think it's humanly possible. It's too fucking funny and cheerful and pretty much goddamn perfect.

That was almost as nerdy and stupid as the first time. Almost but somehow not quite. I wonder why? Hmmmm. Puzzling.

It would be kind of fun to watch Carola not make it to the final. I think her head might explode (only to prove that there is nothing inside of it). I bet that come tomorrow, I will become all Eurovision nationalistic and cheer for her though. I have been brainwashed.

I think it would be hilarious if she didn't make it. But I'm someone who greatly enjoys huge and way too fucking overdramatic outbursts about shit of this nature. Plus her hissy fit would be entertaining.
