These comments were typed in real time on my laptop as I watched Eurovision 2006 Finals, boozed, fucking reveled in my first Eurovision viewing party, and had my girlfriend sitting on my lap. I'm rating it 1-5 scale after each minimized comment. 1 is bad and 5 is good.

Opening Act:

Holy Shit! The painted people were freaky but that was impressive shit. The hosts in on wires! Rock on! lol. Everyone at my party was pretty much blown away and Pip commented she wanted to see pompous Simon, crazy fuck Paula, and fast ass Randy on American Idol do that. Fucking sweet to see Elena perform again. Hot as ever. [5/5]

Switzerland: If We All Give A Little by six4one

Too slow but everyone in the party delighted in how clearly gay the guys all were. Plus the Justin Timberlake look alike in the hat. [2/5]

Moldova: Loca by Ex-O-Zone

Boring. But the lyrics caused much laughing at the party. Plus the slow bad dancing and the stupid dreadlocked would be rapper. Tons of consensus on how hot the chick was though. [3/5]

Israel: Together We Are One by Eddie Butler

Most people in my party freaked out that there were black people in Israel. Then they thought him sitting on the piano was lame as hell. What's with all these slow songs at the start? Sucks ass. I want fucking fireworks and dancing. [2/5]

Latvia: I Hear Your Love by Cosmos

What the fuck? Seriously. What the fuck? I want to see just one fucking singer. What's with lame ass groups who dress the same? Suck ass. [1/5]

Norway: Alvedansen by Christine Guldbrandsen

Pretty. Everything about this performance was pretty. The singing, the performer, the violins, just a beautiful fucking performance. I doubt it will win but it made my party go somewhat quiet and just watch. Mesmerizing stuff. [3/5]

Spain: Bloody Mary by Las Ketchup

The shaved head girl dancing in the dress amused everyone but the song was a little too slow for the attitude that was sung with it. Plus the dancing was not really organized and a tad dull. The "lifts" were sad as hell at the end. They barely got off the ground. Good but not great. [2/5]

Malta: I Do by Fabrizio Faniello

This guy creeped me out. I'm unsure why. Maybe it was the look in his eyes or the spikey hair. But he brought the show I had been waiting to see. What's that? The glitz, the lights, the shifting fast fucking camera angles, the dancing that actually is fast and organized. I don't think he should win but I do think him for bringing the show. [3/5]

Germany: No No Never by Texas Lightning

Cowboy Outfits = Mad Giggling. The song is really great though and once everyone got past the cheesy cowboy theme they digged the song. I just wish she would get up off the stool sooner. The performance was so much better once she stood up. My favorite performance so far. It's a mellow song but the performance was fucking great and it's and has an upbeat energy so unlike the fucking lame ass slow songs I dig it. [4/5]

Denmark: Twist Of Love by Sidsel Ben Semmane

It's Norway again! lol. Is it just me or do they look alike? But this European take on classic American rock was fairly amusing. Too bad for them I never really liked 1950's rock. Good song though and good performance. [3/5]

Russia: Never Let You Go by Dima

Just as douchey as in the semifinals. Mullet equaled much mocking. I don't care if the mob is on his side. He sucks. [1/5]

FYR Macedonia: Ninanajna by Elena Risteska

This got so much better somehow. Maybe it's because of what it was competing against thus far. Loved it. Love, love, loved. I admit it's not a brilliant song but it's Eurovision. Everyone enjoyed the sitting on the two girls at the end plus her naughty smile. [4/5]

Romania: Tornero by Mihai Traistariu

Much like Malta, he brought it. I dunno if he should win but he brought the fucking show and that was great. Plus everyone loved his suit and red converse sneakers. Strangely cute of him. [4/5]

Bosnia & Herzgeovina: Nightingale of Sarajevo by Hari Mata Hari

Pretty but it remains too slow for Eurovision in my opinion. Such a fucking pretty song though. [4/5]

Lithuania: We Are The Winners by LT United

Sucks. Just sucks so badly. You aren't the winners. [1/5]

UK: Teenage Life by Daz Sampson

Blerh. Blerhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I was loathing this guy and his appearance. Everyone at my party had similar disgusted yet amused reactions to this performance. Vote for the music? Your music sucks, dude. Voting for the music won't help your sorry ass. [1/5]

Greece: Everything by Anna Vissi

The pretty! She's so fucking pretty. I'm not sure her performance was blow out enough to win but it kicked ass. Neat to see Greece win twice. [4/5]

Finland: Hard Rock Hallejuah by Lordi

Hard Rock Hallejuah!!! It's the A-Rockalypse! lol. How much does Lordi kick ass? This was the party favorite and I can't really say to the degree I love Lordi. They just kick ass and I have two of their cds on order already. The song, the costumes, the performance. It's all so very good and the live audience seemed to agree with me. [5/5]

Ukraine: Show Me Your Love by Tina Karol

I continue to love this performance and song. I remain unable to explain why. I think it has all the key Eurovision qualities though. Hot girl, good dancing beat, quality performance. I loved how she drew the word out "day" at the very end and the stage emptied of her dancers. That was great. It still lacked the big boom explosive power of the winner though. Ruslana should give lessons on that. [4/5]

France: Il Etait Temps by Virginie Pouchain

Why all the slow songs? There seems to be more slow songs than I'm used to. It was pretty but slow = boring for my thoughts in regards to Eurovision winners. [3/5]

Croatia: Moja Stikla by Severina

BOOM! The song starts off so strong with the male singers and then the strange left to right shuffle dancing. I loved it but unsure why. The people at my party giggled massively. I dug it though. Maybe because it reflects a clear cultural influence? Dunno. Still dug it and I really loved her expressions and hand gestures as she moved about the stage. [4/5]

Ireland: Every Song Is A Cry For Love by Brian Kennedy

SUCK!!!!!! Your song is a cry for talent. [0/5]

Sweden: Invincible by Carola

Same thoughts as the semifinals. I don't think that Carola should win but she was awesome per usual. [4/5]

Turkey: Superstar by Sibel Tüzün

I continue to like this song and the tattoos. I don't know if it's worthy to win though. Love the hip wiggles and dancing. She was very much a disco queen, I think and that was great. [3/5]

Armenia: Without Your Love by Andre

Weird fucking performance. Sucked. [1/5]

Ending Act:

Elena performing again! SQUEEEEEEEEE! I adore her so. 4,000 years of Greek Song? That was weirdly epic and compelling. I was mesmerized by the torches and the big flowing cloaks which could have feasibly caught fire. Feathery bird woman was just… my god. lol. I love Eurovision for this fucked up weird ass shit like bird women dancing around. It's so weird. Huge puppet head dancing? This is totally fodder for Midnight Madness, Pat. I'm serious. lol. Ahh, I love this show so much. I must see it live one day.

The Voting:

I'm not sure why but the voting results were particularly fun to watch and I enjoyed all the mini commentary from the announcers. I loved how many votes Finland got from various countries. I can't say how cool it was shout with happiness each time it was announced that Finland got one of the top three votes. So fucking sweet. And hot Belgium commentator? I love Kate Ryan as well. I rejoiced in the live audience boos that Lithuania received with each announced votes they got. I'm not sure where my dislike from them came from but it's fucking strong now.

The Winner:

FINLAND!!!! My god. Finland won! How much does that rock as a result during my first Eurovision viewing party?! Yayyyyyyy!

Hard Rock Hallejuah by Lordi (Glorious Winners of Eurovision 2006):

The Conclusion:

This was the best year to have a viewing party and pretty much showed my friends exactly why I love Eurovision so much. I'm still happy and stunned Lordi won. There is fucking music justice. The Monster Show rocked the fucking world! I really can't wait for my cds.

Hi,
Glad you enjoyed the show.
It was the first time that the country I voted for, won!! For me that is progress, lol.

I don't know how much info you got for the show (from the narrator), I can explain a few things.

What you saw at the beginning of the ending act was parts of Euripides tragedy "The Bacchae"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euripides
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bacchae

The persons entering the stage with the torches (which was build to look like an ancient theater) are "the choros" or chorus (in English)and what you saw as 4000 years of Greek Song is true, meaning that the choros usually communicated in song form. Believe me it wasn't intended to be epic or compelling, the idea was to show the evolution of the songs and the music from ancient times up to now.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_chorus

What follows are some pictures from The Byzantine period: churches, Byzantine music and pictures of saints.
As for the puppets, they were figures of the "theater of shadows" which was an entertainment for the sultan first and later for the common people.

Today you can still find shadow theaters performing in Greece as well.

Having been a college drama nerd I knew what was going on... I was more impressed with the glitzy way they carried all that out. Honestly though? I normally hate that shit. I have no idea why but theater from its origins I don't tend to like. I also fucking hate Shakespeare.

Shakespeare doesn't work for me either.

I didn't like theater also until I saw Medea (also by Euripides) at the ancient theater of Epidauros

That was it, for me at least.
I do remain eclectic, but now i see theater from a different perspective.

Maybe a visit to greece will change your point of view :)

I wish! lol. Maybe in 15-20 years when I can afford it.
