I got the call!

Well, I got the message on my cell phone, that is. Natalie from the St. Louis County Circuit Court left a message asking me to call her back and to me that means I've got the job. Because traditionally people don't ask you to call back after an interview just to tell you that the position is no longer available. They usually don't call at all or send you a form letter saying you're shit out of luck.

Which means that right now I'm scared as fuck. I do know that I must ask her two things when I call her tomorrow:

1) What my monthly salary would be.

2) If court employees, who are working for the state, receive a regular raise every year by 2-3% like federal employees.

If the answer to the first question is I'll get pay equal to what I'm making now and the answer to the second is a firm yes then I'm taking the job despite the fact it's located in the source of all satanic parking problems in St. Louis. Because it would mean I'm finally at a fucking job where I'm guaranteed to get some advancement whether it be in actual position or fucking money. The parking still kills me though. I have to ask one of my friends who is Metrolink oriented to help me out and take a field trip to the closest station to my house and then the court to find out how bad of a trek that would actually be every day. Any takers out there? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Hah.

In other local news, it's supposed to snow like crazy tonight/tomorrow. Which baffles me since today it was sunny and lovely and 70 degrees. The weather is a puzzling phenomena which I shall never understand and therefore I choose to hate it. Especially the concept of driving on Olive Blvd in a shitload of snow.

Congratulations on the callback! It sounds like a great job...exactly the kind of thing I hope to be doing sometime within the next decade. I hope it works out.

Sorry for the random comment, I'm a longtime reader of your fanfic and decided I may as well break out of my shyness shell a bit and actually use my powers of communication. Go me or something. Anyway, yeah...congratulations again, and good luck driving through the snow tomorrow. I'm looking forward to walking a mile through it to get to class. Fun times.

Why in the next decade? Are you going to school for Criminal Justice or the like?

Don't apologize for random comments! I think almost all comments in life are random and the whole point of me having a Livejournal, besides having my sad ass life chronicled on the web where most people don't care to read it, is to meet and talk to other people. And getting out of your shell is always a good thing.

A longtime reader of my fanfic, huh? Thanks for the support! I always appreciate people reading my drabble. I might not be writing fanfic for awhile but if you want you can always check out my recap website The Nerdiest Girl (http://nerdiestgirl.typepad.com/the_nerdiest_girl/) or my upcoming manga review website if you like my piddling writings.

Hopefully you find the stuff there amusing for that is the point of me writing it. To amuse. Or to attempt to amuse at least.

Ha, I wish I knew what I was doing, education-wise! Honestly I can't see myself majoring in anything law or justice related, but there might be a possible minor I'd consider. Who knows, I've only changed majors around 392928364 times since I started. I do have this weird interest in the law and legislation, though. I don't know, I kind of want to have about 10 different careers. I should really focus on picking one at some point.

Glad I didn't scare ya too badly, I always feel strange and stalker-ish leaving comments for people. Did I mention I'm weird? Ha. No, but seriously, I am.

The Nerdiest Girl is awesome, I actually just went and read it. I'm not too into manga yet, although I have a bunch of friends in town that are, so I'm sure I'll read your reviews on the new site. Your writing style actaully reminds me a lot of my own (aside from the fact that I suck at it, of course) so it's a lot of fun for me to read your stuff. And indeed, it's amusing. And great.

Okay, I'm done rambling now. I tend to do that, sorry.

It's not unheard of to get a callback turning you down. It actually used to happen quite often, and (IMHO) it's rather the polite thing to do.

And if you can find a parking spot, Metrolink is quite the nice way to get downtown.

For rough-order scheduling, you can use the trip finder form on the main page at http://www.metrostlouis.org/ (though they're a bit optimistic about their on-time rates) Just plug in your origin and destination.

Is this your way of saying you don't think I've gotten the job? lol. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't call me to say I didn't get it just because I've applied for St. Louis County Circuit Court before and they just sent a standard form letter. We'll see how it goes tomorrow when I call though.

I've been to the Metrolink site thanks to Jaimie's link before but having never been on the Metrolink itself if I get the job I really want a test ride to see how convenient taking it from the nearest station to my house to the court would be. There's also the hell that is Highway 40 being under construction for the next 2 years. Oh fun.

This is my way of saying that you don't know what they called for until you actually talk to them. You may have left your gloves in the office or something. But if you know something about their standard procedures, then more power to ya.

I'd come with you, since I'm pretty good with the public transportation system, but the times I'm available for it would render the info totally useless, since weekend schedules are different, and I have to be at work at 11:30 on weekdays (too early to go before, not early enough to go after)

Why not make Jimu do it?

Glad to hear about the call-back! I would caution against assuming it means you got it, but I'd be inclined to treat it as good news (a second tier interview with your interviewer's supervisor, perhaps?). But it's also good think ahead about what you want out of it and what the deal breakers are for you. So either way, it sounds like you got your bases covered. Good luck! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!

As for the snow, I'm jealous--I've seriously had snowboarding on the brain, but haven't had time to indulge...as it isn it's 12:45am and I'm just now walking home from work.
