Due to some major site malfunctions and major stupidity on my part dreiser.net is no longer functioning. I've lost all of my anime fanfic and all of my Buffy fanfic oneshots. A lot of my anime fic I can get back at shoujoai.com and will add back onto my site. I can also regain It Starts With Faith from altfic.com but the Buffy one shot fics are pretty much lost forever as are a lot of anime fics not on shoujoai.com.

I won't go into the boring details of what happened but I figured I'd do a little post here explaining the situation. I'm past my anger and have just accepted it.

In the meantime, I've moved to http://www.dreiser.org/ and yeah, I'm so not an organization but fuck it. The site is way tinier and there's tons of pages featuring the phrase dreiser.org: formally known as dreiser.net but other than that it's exactly the same. With the exception of my long prattling explanation on what happened to my previous site.

I'm sort of bummed I lost dreiser.net because I've had it forever and that's where people look for me. I'm going to be working on getting it back but I make no promises. In the meantime, dreiser.org is here for your fanfic servicing needs. And man that sounded slightly pornographic.

Have you tried using the Wayback machine to retrieve your stories? I just did a quick search and found loads of pages, including Buffy one shots like 'Just One of the Wiccans' and tons of anime etc. and that was just on a quick look through.

In my haste I forgot to say, sorry to hear about the trouble with the site. I lost my .com address once and had to switch to .net and I think you could hear me weeping from miles around - fortunately I got it back after a month - so I know how painful it can be.

Dude! Thank you. Between that and google cache I'm getting a ton of stuff back. Yayyy. It's going to take awhile to get all of the stuff online again after editing it but still, big time yayyyy.

Though I remain bummed over losing dreiser.net. I have hopes for regaining it though.

That's good to hear.

I had a hell of a time getting my domain name back from my old web host - who refused to answer e-mails - but I eventually figured out it was actually owned by someone else and with a quick mail to them it was unlocked and I was able to buy it back. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Geeze, I'm sorry to see it go.
*hugs*

No... it's still on there. And thanks ot ralst I'm getting most of my anime fics back now. It looks like I might have the entire archive back to 100%. I just might not have my same domain name now. It will take awhile for me to get everything sorted out and uploaded though.

Ouch. I'm sorry you lost (even temporarily) so much of your hard work.

Am I right to assume you'll be pursuing a more aggressive backup strategy?

And I'm curious about the boring details, partly because I have an enquiring mind, and partly as a cautionary tale.

Ugh, that sucks and I can imagine how frustrating it is. Anyway, now maybe you can write your story for the writing class about how much you hate losing web addresses? Okay, that was lame, sorry.

Damn, that sucks. Hardcore. I'm really sorry, I know what it's like to lose a lot of work in the space of a minute or so...mine were just hard copies instead of a site. I'm not tech-savvy enough to even make one of those. Anyway, yeah. Ouch, and good luck recovering what you can.

FUCK!!!!

HORRIBLE!

I think you should put out a call on mediablvd, twop, your sites, our site, LJ, etc, that if anyone has saved any of y our stories, to give you a heads up. I bet a lot of people have saved your stories to hard drive, rather than just bookmarking them. And even if they did just bookmark it, you can get the filename of the fic and maybe do that google cache thing.

Man! SUCKS!

Strange that you should say that actually . I admit to being a bit of a kleptomaniac when it comes to fanfiction . I save all of what I read to Hard Drive. Even the stuff I think is utter gutter trash gets saved to a "this was utter crap" folder .

If someone where to direct me to listing of what fanfiction's are fran's i'm sure I can pull em out,zip them up and send them to her

Sorry you lost your fic. I hope you're able to get it back.
