It's that magical time of the year, people. The time of year where everyone in the USA gets all wound up about the pitiful song contest that is American Idol while I start bouncing in my seat with giddy joy at the mere idea of watching the Eurovision 2007 finals airing on May 12th live.
Happily, the contest is actually going on at the same time as Anime Central in Chicago so I plan on conning Pat as well as some other people who are joining me there to watch the online broadcast on a computer. The screen will be much tinier than my last Eurovision party but the quality will still be just as fucking good.
To prove that quality I'm now going to link a bevy of videos for some of the Eurovision 2007 entries. My choice for favorite is torn between Ukraine and Israel.
If you want to just see something easy here's a quick preview of nearly all the contestants for the upcoming contest. Very cool stuff.
And here are some kick ass full length videos to enjoy.
Israel: Teapacks - Push The Button
It's very post apocalyptic, isn't it? lol. I love this song. Fucking hilarious stuff.
Romania: Simplu & Andra - Dracula, My Love
This is what Romania should've entered as their song but it got kicked out of the contest at the last minute because of copyright issues. Apparently the last few seconds show up in a commercial. Suck ass.
Romania: Todomondo - Liubi, Liubi, I Love You
And this is what replaced the Dracula, I Love You song as Romania's entry. Bah. What's up with the pipe?
Switzerland: DJ Bobo - Vampires Are Alive
No worries for any vampire fans though. Switzerland is so picking that slack up. I have to wonder about the vampire theme though. Plus it's Switzerland. Shouldn't they be singing about watches or hiding Nazi gold? Hmm. This song does make me giggle.
Malta: Olivia Lewis - Vertigo
This is the funniest video to me. I mean, the moment she started running I began giggling and I couldn't stop until the video was over. I really hope she runs around stage like that when she performs at the finals. It would be the sweetest thing ever. I like the song for some reason. Maybe it's the dramatic tone of it? I swear though, it so makes me giggle.
Turkey: Kenan Doğulu - Shake It Up Shekerim
Turkish Justin Timberlake! Apparently this is the favorite for winning the big show. I can see why. It's a catchy song and pretty modern in taste in terms of a Eurovision entry. But this is Eurovision, home of the wacky winners, so who knows what will happen.
Poland: The Jet Set - Time To Party
Look, Poland entered a ho and her pimp. Seriously. That's all I have to say about this one.
Denmark: DQ - Drama Queen
Yes, a drag queen is going to Eurovision. An entire country voted to send a fabulous drag queen to an international song contest. Must I reiterate how much Eurovision rocks? And Denmark as well. It's not really a particularly good song. Nice drag act though. Three snaps, sister.
Bulgaria: Elitsa Todorova & Stoyan Yankulov - Water
I have to wonder how good this song will be live but the video really is fantastic. I love how it has a hot goth chick singing a mystical type song but it's a dance techno beat. Cool mix of different genres. Plus it's fairly mesmerizing. I could easily zonk out listening to this song. Not that it takes a lot for my brain to zone out. It is fairly tiny.
Finland: Hanna Pakarinen - Leave Me Alone
The pretty! Dude, she is the pretty for me. I hope she makes it to the finals. Not the best rock song but my god, the sheer pretty makes up for it. I can even forgive her for the windswept look provided by very visible cheap fans. Those black stockings and shoes so have to go though. Need some fucking bad ass black heels.
Ukraine: Verka Serduchka - Danzing
Save the best for last! I so want this song to do well. Everytime I listen to it I get in a happy mood and I bounce around in my seat. Plus it's super unusual and manic in quality. Perfect Eurovision winner quality if you ask me.
Anything else to add my fellow Eurovision watching European pals?
