My first week as an emergency dispatcher for the Missouri State Highway Patrol is now over with. How was it? Mind numbing, exciting, boring, hilarious, serious, headache filled, overwhelming, but most importantly... fucking fabulous. Seriously, I love this job so much. And you know what? I do a slightly petty and vengeful mimed spit in the face to the people who uttered any version of the words "that job is so stressful" to me.
Especially since most people who did utter those words had no idea really what the job entails.
So what does the job entail? My god, why am I using that word so much? Ugh. I hate it. Anyway, the job is for the most part talking on the radio. Duh. The calls we get are 45% point to point calls which is stuff we get from other police agencies, 45% troopers, and 10% general public. The general public calls which is what I assume people got the "that job is so stressful" line from are nothing but reporting general traffic shit such as accidents, broken down cars, and occasionally senile old men wandering by the side of the road with oxygen tanks.
That last one happened yesterday. He wandered for about a mile before our car finally got to him. Who even knows what that was all about.
Basically? I'm so happy right now. The reason I'm so happy is I think I'll continue to love this job over a long period of time and that I can be really good at it once I'm done with all of my very extensive and super long training. Exactly how long is the training? Well, I have to go to Jefferson City to the MSHP Academy for 5 weeks of training and I'm training for six months with no radio operation which means I don't speak on the radio I just listen in.
It's so odd but I think the reason I'm so giddy is that I might have found the job I'm going to stick with until retirement. If I stay with them I can retire at 54 which I think is a really fucking good age for such a thing. I also will finally get to join a union which has all sorts of sweet benefits AND because the Highway Patrol is written into the Missouri Constitution our money doesn't come from the same pool as the other state agencies. That's why we get such regular raises which always include communications officers thanks to the union.
Because of all this giddiness I've come up with two unflappable goals to reach by the time I'm 35 which provide me with much additional motivation. First: To have 10,000 saved in the bank. Second: To own a house or be in the process of buying a house.
Summarizing my work situation? Happy! Super happy even though my car had yet another oil/engine situation. I swear to god, I think fucking Jiffy Lube is trying to systematically destroy my shitty Saturn. Twice now I've gone there for an oil change and they end up fucking my poor plastic car up in some way. Very annoying.
Everyone reading this should know by now I'm a music whore and sharing music is one of the things that makes me happiest in the world. That being so here's some new music from two of my favorite bands!

What else? Eurovision! A dykey looking chick from Serbia who can't sing that well won it. How the fuck? Seriously! Lets look at the video and ponder the mystery of it.
Maybe it's her harem? Or maybe it was the fact that precious Russia sang sort of... hrm... well, they weren't as dead eyed as Tatu was way back when but they weren't as sexy and enthusiastic as they could've been.
No matter what Eurovision is fabulous and it's pretty fucking cool Serbia won their first time in the contest. So way to go dykey looking chick! I like your glasses and sexy harem!
