I've had way too little sleep for the past two days and so did my dispatching partner on overnights. It's because of this that perhaps we decided to play a prank on Jefferson County when they called us point to point. Normally we wouldn't do such things but it was the tenth time that night they tried to give us a car vs. deer accident when they knew very well our two cars were...
1. Dealing with a drunk driver.
2. Dealing with a serious injury accident.
Hence the tenth time they call with car vs. deer accident we decide to mess with them. How is that? Well, it goes like this:
Oh yes, and before you begin reading, my partner is a guy so our voices do differ greatly.
JEFFERSON COUNTY: Jefferson County to Kirkwood State.
ME: (Groans with partner.) This is State. (Off Air To Partner.) Want to mess with them? Lets take turns answering and drag the call out way longer than we should.
PARTNER: (Off Air, Grins.) Okay!
JEFFERSON COUNTY: Kirkwood State, we have a 1050, vehicle vs. deer on Highway 21 Northbound at Highway 30.
PARTNER: (On Air.) Jefferson County, is the vehicle still on scene?
JEFFERSON COUNTY: (Sounds confused.) Affirmative, Kirkwood.
ME: (On Air.) Jefferson County, is the deer J4?
JEFFERSON COUNTY: (Sounds more confused.) The deer is J4 and on the shoulder.
PARTNER: (Off Air.) They're starting to sound really perplexed. (On Air.) Jefferson County, is the car J3?
JEFFERSON COUNTY: (Sounds totally lost and a bit irritated.) Negative, Kirkwood. It is also on the shoulder.
ME: (Off Air.) They're getting annoyed. Should I end it or mess with them a bit more?
PARTNER: (Off Air.) Mess around a bit more.
ME: (On Air.) Jefferson County, do you have a name and call back number?
JEFFERSON COUNTY: (Just annoyed.) No, Kirkwood.
PARTNER: (On Air.) Jefferson County... our only car available just got called onto a 1055, we'll take care of the deer but the response will be delayed.
JEFFERSON COUNTY: (Irritated Noise.) 10-4, Kirkwood. We'll try to get a deputy en route.
ME: (On Air.) KAA203.
JEFFERSON COUNTY: KAA349.
ME: You know they think we're insane right now.
PARTNER: If we're insane they've caused it by trying to give us dead deer calls every five seconds.
