This does not remotely resemble my memories of the characters in the Ramona books. Beezus in particular. Why is Selena Gomez playing her? I hate it when things from my childhood are ruined. It's like the Willy Wonka movie remake and I know it did technically follow the book closer but you know what? I don't care. The Gene Wilder version is better and Roald Dahl wrote the screenplay for it.

Anyway. This makes me sad inside and I had to share my pain because I'm mean that way.

I like Selena Gomez. My sons are oddly fascinated by her, as is Caroline. Sadie tends to sort of LOOK derisive. I loved the Ramona books when I was a kid because 1) the family was a perfect example of the working poor. They struggled financially and things like a burger in a restaurant were a luxury and treat. The mom and dad often veered toward being underemployed. Beezus was this annoyed big sister who tried to be a good sport, but like most pre-teens she wasn't very insightful. And Ramona was just kind of rambunctious when she was little and she slowly grew out of it. She wasn't WACKY

This movie looks like it's okay. It's looks like a sweet family comedy about being true to yourself andgood to family blah blah blah

BUT IT IS NOT MY BELOVED RAMONA QUIMBY BOOKS!!!

I have nothing against Selena Gomez. I don't even know who she is really. I just know she's not Beezus and this movie isn't the books I read as a kid. I'm baffled at the habit Hollywood has of taking beloved books which are popular for a reason then changing them to the degree they barely resemble the source material. What's the point then? Just make something original if you're going to twist the book to such a degree.

The movie doesn't look bad but it's predictable and my main bitch at this point is they made Ramona into this trite thing that's been done a million times. I'm wondering how Diary Of A Wimpy Kid is going to be now.

And yes, it is slightly weird how much a grown woman loves little kids movies but whatever. I got super excited when Princess & The Frog came out. Not as much as South Park S13 but you know... lol.
