I'm a huge Captain America fangirl. It was the first comic book series that I ever read. My mom got me a subscription at the age of seven and I adored Cap and I have ever since. He's not the traditionally coolest character but he's solid and I've always liked his characterization. He kicked tons of ass in the Civil War storyline against Iron Man whom I've always found to be a douche bag. That's not to say I didn't looooove the Iron Man movie which I totally credit to Robert Downey Jr. since I really do dislike the character of Tony Stark in the comics.
Being a Cap fangirl I was thrilled to hear the rumors that he would be making a cameo in the new Incredible Hulk movie starring Edward Norton. I went to see the movie in theaters, loved it and all the in details it gave the comic fans, but no Cap. His scene got deleted and would be on the expanded edition of the dvd they said. Thus I waited in nerdy anticipation to see Cap on the dvd.
Finally! DVD comes out. I buy it. Cap shows up in the new alternate opening where Bruce is wandering through Antartica freezing his booty off and this is where we get a glimpse of Cap for the first time since his shitty 1990 movie which so doesn't count. Want to see?

It's odd. I'm not sure if I'm disappointed or relieved. On one hand it makes the continuity of Cap's appearance in the Avengers then his own film a lot easier since we don't get a clear look at him and there's not really an actor playing him at this point. On the other hand the fangirl in me really wanted to get a better look at him all frozen and cute. Still, a cameo is a cameo and yay on Cap for that. Too bad Bruce didn't notice him.
One of the things that has me a bit perplexed is the rumor that Cap might be played by Will Smith. Which didn't Wild Wild West prove that Will Smith playing characters established as white turn out badly? I was miffed at first but then I starting thinking about it and there is the fact that in the WWII days racism was more rampant so it actually makes more sense the army would be willing to test an experimental freakish super soldier could kill the person who takes it drug on a skinny black kid rather than a skinny white kid. But on the other hand, would they give the suddenly not skinny super soldier black kid an American flag costume to wear to fight the Nazis? Dunno.
I'm still of the opinion Cap should be played by Matt Damon though. He's got the pretty blonde boy next door look and he's proven that he can buff himself up nicely in order to play an action hero. I think he could pull of the ultimate boyscout attitude of Cap without being annoying too which is fairly important if you ask me.
