Woooow, you guys. Seriously. Warning for Birds of Prey comic spoilers.

Is it just me or do the new Scans Daily mods seem really super hyper sensitive? They really mod the fuck out of that community.

I'm kinda disappointed in peoples reactions, honestly. Gail is a good writer, have faith she has a plan...

I don't think that diminishes the fact that yet another gay character killed themself over a one sided straight crush. It's a horrible cliche and stereotype and it's happening during Gay Pride. It's hard to explain, I think, but as a lesbian I'm honestly sick of this crap happening over and over and the writers justifying it because "we don't understand" or it's "part of a larger storyline". I find it insulting, frankly.

And as much as I like Gail's writing... I don't think professional writers should really go defending their work on fan forums. Just let the fans bitch and leave it be.

Uh oh. Drama.

It's a ridiculous storyline that ridiculously over-used. But it's done, and by defending themselves on the site, the author just enables further argument about it.

Also, what differentiates the 'professional' writers from the fans, if they go around popping up in discussions like this? Probs not the best plan, Gail. Blurring the lines a bit too much. Leaving yourself open.

The whole thing is a clusterfuck but someone on S_D was correct when they said it's pretty bad PR for a professional writer to go around defending their work on fan forums. It seems a tad innapropriate to me. I mean, just let the fans bitch and be happy if you prove them wrong.

Still... ugh horrible gay cliche, seriously, Gail.

It's awful PR, yeah. I don't even know who Gail is, and have lost respect for her. Way to go, Gail.

Also, I feel that defending her work makes her seem incredibly insecure about it. Stand behind it with confidence, don't go around fan forums pleading people to wait for the next issue. Not very cool.

There's a lot of writers who talk on fan forums, but usually the forums are on their own website or like DC or Marvel's official boards, at least in comics--which is a pretty tiny community.

That said, Simone has been pretty mean to her poor gays lately, kicking Scandal off Secret Six (even though she's still in the comic constantly) and sidelining her personal life plot and now killing poor Creote.

S_D in particular has always been a slash-friendly safespace sort of thing and they get a lot of shit for "having fun wrong" from normal comics fans (read: straight white fat nerd guys over thirty. I worked in a comic shop, I feel qualified to judge.) for not spazzing out with joy when Hal Jordan's hair ruffles in the wind.

As they enjoy gay-friendly comics and such, they tend to take "it's for the larger (straight) plotline!" or "well if you'd just moderate your TONE" arguments pretty poorly. Nobody comes off looking particularly good in that summary thing.
