Eurovision 2011 Preview

It's my favorite time of year. Eurovision time! Awww, yeah. Anyway. lol. The semi-finals air on May 10th and 12th while the finals are on May 14th. You can watch them streaming live on the interwebs at the official Eurovision website. You'll need to download an Octoshape plug in before you can watch it though, if it's anything like previous years but that's not a big deal. It's airing at 2 pm CST on all three days.




Bosnia and Herzegovina

This is nice and soothing. I think it could do well.



Poland

Holy shit, Poland! You're sending something pop and sexy. I'm shocked.



Norway

Sooooo, we're not singing anymore, Norway? Yeah. Good luck with that.



Albania
Feel the Passion by Aurela Gaçe

Albania! Unless you do something severely wrong in the live version I give you 12 points. Awesome.



Turkey
Live It Up by Yüksek Sadakat

NOOOOO. Why are you boring, Turkey? Who is this dull bald dude trying to rock out and failing? I'm so sad. You usually never let me down when it comes to bringing the awesome.



Serbia

It's the sixties and super happy. I really like this performance.



Russia
Get You by Alexey Vorobyov

Haha. Russia. You're always so horrible. It amuses me.



Georgia
One More Day by Eldrine

Depending on how this one turns out in the live version, I think it could be 8 or 10 points. Oh wait. They have stupid Limp Bizkit rapping in this song. Ehhhh. Georgia, that sort of ruins it.



San Marino
Stand By by Senit

I don't think I've ever seen San Marino compete before. This is pretty good. I hope the live version kicks ass because I have a sad thing about rooting for newer/comeback entries.



Hungary
What About My Dreams? by Kati Wolf

This is hilariously super dramatic and I love it. lol. Hungary! You embrace the spirit of Eurovision.



Portugal
A luta é alegria by Homens da Luta

The song title translates to the Struggle is Joy and... yeahhhh. I get what they're doing with this but it's not going to get them very far in terms of voting. I'll be shocked if they make it past the semi-finals with this.



Lithuania
C'est ma vie by Evelina Sašenko

Pretty, dude, the sheer pretty of her voice. It might be too slow though.



Greece
Watch My Dance by Loukas Giorkas feat. Stereo Mike

:::sighs::: Greece. Why are you doing the same thing as Georgia? Haven't you guys caught on about how random rapping in songs is way overdone and sounds stupid? If you'd take away the rapper this performance would be close to perfect. I mean, the sheer drama and power of his voice is epic. Why ruin it with the dumb rapper? Bah.



Belgium
With Love Baby by Witloof Bay

I'm surprising myself. I think this is my favorite entry so far. I mean, it's way mellow but it's catchy and fun.



Ukraine
Angels by Mika Newton

Ukraine, you never let me down. You're like my Eurovision soulmate even though I hate that word. This isn't your usual boisterous entry though. I hope you pump it up for the semi-finals and hopefully finals. I love you so.



Moldova
So Lucky by Zdob şi Zdub

rofl... ohhhhh... Moldova. I hug you. Honestly. Sometimes I love your entries so very much. Awesome.



Bulgaria

Nice, Bulgaria. This is the first rock entry I really like.



Israel
Ding Dong by Dana International

I'll totally cop to the fact this song title cracks me up. It's a good pop performance. Needs a little more energy though.



Slovenia

RANDOM NINJA DANCERS IN THE FOREST. I love you Slovenia. You are the new over dramatic fabulous Malta.



Estonia
Rockefeller Street by Getter Jaani

I really hope that Estonia makes it to the finals because I have a feeling they'll bring it live and so far there aren't any really powerful pop performances. I think this one has the capacity to be awesome if it's done right.



Belarus
I Love Belarus by Anastasia Vinnikova

I love Belarus too! lol. I guess people are comparing this entry to Silvia Night's for Iceland? I think it's less of a joke than Silvia's entry and thus it shouldn't confuse/offend people who don't get the joke. But honestly? I love this entry. I want this to go to the finals more than anything else at this point.



Ireland
Lipstick by Jedward

Ireland. WTF. Ireland. lol. Ahhh. Perversely, I love this. It's so horrible it's good. Nice.



France
Sognu by Amaury Vassili

FRANCE! You are too epic to be contained by Eurovision! But no one will vote for you because you're France and it's a fucking travesty because this is the best thing I've seen so far. Keep on being French and not giving a shit because you rule.



Italy
Madness of Love by Raphael Gualazzi

After a fourteen year absence, Italy is competing in Eurovision again, and they send this. I mean, it's a good song but I'll be shocked if it goes anywhere. I can admit it's good but personally, it's not to my taste.



United Kingdom
I Can by Blue

I'm only linking this video because UK fans are spamming Eurovision boards and everywhere on the interbutts telling people this is THE BEST SONG EVARRRRR!!!! And UK will be redeemed with it. I'm sort of looking forward to their spirits being crushed yet again when the voting time rolls around. Sorry, UK. This isn't your savior entry. Try again next year.



Germany
Taken by a Stranger by Lena

I really really really really like this entry. I usually like German entries, in fact. But I just wonder if Germany can win two years in a row with the same performer? Has anyone done that before?



Spain
Que me quiten lo bailao by Lucía Pérez

This is so happy and pretty and just enjoyable. I hope it does well.



And end of videos and prattling! For me, the entries from Greece, Belgium, Bulgaria, Belarus, France, Germany and Moldova stick out the most. Of course, it's sometimes a totally different story when you watch it all live at the finals. We'll see how it goes but as always, I'm looking forward to the show with way sad anticipation.
