Eurovision 2011 Final

Germany seems bound and determined to make this filled with fabulousness and drama. Which is pretty damn cool to me. They have this edge of your seat duh duhn duhhhh music they play before everything starts. I guess Lena isn't performing the winning song from 2010 contest because she's also doing the entry for Germany this year and she needs to concentrate on that.

The hosts... are trying to be funny and attempting to perform the song themselves. You know, year after year, the one thing I dislike about the contest is the hosts. They're always painfully bad. Well, they're doing a cover of Lena's song, Satellite, and it's pretty decent actually. Haha... oh god. It's complete ska cover with a brass section. Okay. I take it back. The male host can sing and this is pretty hilarious and cool. I'm sure the hosts will go back to irritating me again at some point though but right now? I do like them.

Ohhh, here's Lena! Yay. Germany you're doing a good job. I'm really pleased with this opening performance.

I'm not fond of acoustic guitar performances. This is an acoustic guitar performance. I think you can figure out my stance.

Dino Merlin: Love in Rewind

This is an extremely mellow performance but I sort of love it. Maybe it's how soothing his voice is or how happy everyone is performing the song. I don't know. I like it quite a bit though. Then again, I usually like Bosnia and Herzegovina.

A Friend In London: New Tomorrow

What is with all these soft sensitive male singers? They did this junk last year and I wasn't happy with it. There's too many songs about world peace and improving the world also. I mean, I understand they have this but blerh. Super dull, Denmark.

I admit it, I'm prejudiced in favor of female singers with epic voices. Thus Lithuania pleases me greatly. Ah, she's using sign language during her song. Yay.

Kati Wolf: What About My Dreams?

Finally! Massively epic divatastic female singer! This is what Eurovision is all about. Thank you, Hungary. This is a nice booming shiny and flashy pop performance and she has a great voice. It's sort of 80's in a way. It reminds me of Taylor Dayne. What the hell? lol. They have guys in weirdly lit up outfits dancing around. Like lightbulbs on their hats and such.

Jedward: Lipstick

ROFL. Ireland... oh.... you just don't give a shit and you're going for pure camp and crazy shit aren't you? I think you must really want a win this year. They have really cool effects using the big screen behind them. Kind of reminds me of the James Bond intro to tell you the truth. With their matching red... Lady Gaga'esque outfits and straight up broom blonde hair... yeah... they're trying to stand out and put out a visual show. The song is so-so but the performance is pretty hilarious awesome.

This is a fairly standard pop song but I like the guy's voice and he's giving a really energetic performance and that goes a long way. Not winning material though.

Getter Jaani: Rockefeller Street

This was one of my favorite entries. I'm so happy to see them giving a good live performance. Her super happy face and big eyes is a bit off putting. It's like she's a very hyper Barbie almost. Plastic expressions? I'm not sure how to explain it. Blink! You can blink! lol. I'm not sure why I like this song so much? Maybe it's how upbeat it is and then the moments of quiet it has in between? I'm not sure. Her dancers have just as weird expressions. I think they practiced. lol. How odd.

Greek Loukas Giorkas feat. Stereo Mike: Watch My Dance

Urgh. Rapping. If they got rid of the rapping I would love this entry. I mean, I try not to be an asshole but I really don't think other countries do a good job trying to rap. I think maybe that should belong to the USA and other countries not try to do it. They sort of suck. And rapping in the middle of a rock song hasn't been cool here since... what? 2007? It kills me because the singer's voice is so beautiful and epic and deep and wonderful and then there's this horrible rapper trying to be bad ass and just being stupid ruining the song.

Russia is dressed like Danny Zuko. I know this is an okay entry but I hate Russia so. I think the back of their jackets say sex? In which case... ewww. Russia. Ugh.

His hair is horrible but his voice is perfect. I love how France just doesn't give a crap anymore. They just send what they want to send because they know no matter how awesome they are they won't get votes because haters hate on France so fuck them. Send awesome shit and don't give a fuck because you're cool like that. France, much love.

Don't get me wrong, I like this entry. It's good but I kind of wonder what Italy is thinking sending this after not being in the contest for so many years. It's a good song but it's so low key and it seems like... they're not really trying? I dunno. It's okay.

There's a lot of quiet and mellow performances. I like the sunshine graphics in the background. Normally I don't like performances that are more low key but this is strangely catchy.

I'm completely lost as to why UK masses are thinking this is such a great entry. It's mediocre at best. Maybe UK has been sucking and losing for so long they've lost any ability to judge what's good? Because this isn't it. Sorry.

DUDE! Moldova. This is why I fucking love you. You're always so awesome and crazy and epic and just... no one compares. The music, the outfits, the girl in a tutu and on a unicycle. People wearing monocles! And giant pointed hats! Everything about you is great. This performance is a party and it rocks. They're giving everything they can to this song and dude, I want them to win. I'm sorry Slovenia but Moldova, I love you forever.

Lena: Taken by a Stranger

I really enjoy this performance. Lena is great at giving these beautiful calming performances that are quality which is rare for me to enjoy in Eurovision because I love the BIG BOOMING performances where they're pouring their hearts out to win but she's fantastic, really. I just wonder if she can win two years in a row. Even so, much love to this song and to Lena.

Her voice is incredibly beautiful. This a slow and sweet song. Normally I find this kind of entry boring but for some reason, this one isn't so bad. Maybe it's just how good her voice is? I don't know. I like it.

MY FAVORITE! Her outfit is sort of ridiculous but I don't care. Her voice remains divatastic and she's giving it all her. I'm so torn between her and Moldova. She's pure diva awesome and I love everything about this performance. (Except her outfit.) But it's pure Eurovision awesome. Love, love, love, love, love it. If this or Moldova wins I'll squee forever.

Ukraine took a long time to get on stage. Weird. Ah. Here we go. Ukraine is usually my default favorite country but I wasn't liking the preview of this song when I saw it. Let's see if this is different. :::sighs::: Nope. It's not fierce at all. What happened, Ukraine? Normally you give me someone awesome like Maja from Slovenia but this time... it's all not fierce and quiet and just meh. Don't get me wrong, the sand art was cool but that's not the song entry and the song is what people are meant to vote for. I'm sad! Don't do this again.

It's the sixties! lol. I love this entry though. It's super happy and groovy and smooth and it fills me with happiness in the same way that the entry from Spain did. I hope it goes far. Genuinely fun entries like this should be encouraged and not looked over.

This is another one of the rapping entries. Let's see if this one is less horrible. I mean, I love the female singer's voice but I just really dislike rapping in the middle of great songs that don't need it. Oh no. Here comes the rapping. The rapping is honestly making me give this a lower score. If they took out the rapping I'd probably give it a ten but nooo, it's there, and it's ruining her singing.

Apparently Germany has the most amount of people trying to vote for their own entry each year. Germans! You can't vote for yourselves! lol. You should know this by now. I liked the opening song so I wonder what Germany is going to do with the intermission song. Norway had the most awesome intermission during the voting time with the big dance performance across the globe so I'm curious how Germany is going to top or equal that. It'll be pretty hard, imho.

Hmmm. It's not anything quite as epic as Norway but it's pretty entertaining nevertheless. At least the music is good and it's bright and shiny and keeps you well amused. Good job, Germany.

Countries giving their votes right now and it's pretty upsetting. No love at all for Moldova and Slovenia. Not even love for Ireland. What the fuck is everyone voting for Sweden, Ukraine, and Azerbaijan? They weren't that good at all! MOLDOVA. So sad. Seriously. Why don't they acknowledge how awesome you were? Haha. Dude. Germans are such sore losers. Their audience is booing everytime they get a low score. Norway didn't do that last year!

Holy shit. Azerbaijan won. What the hell. This is just strange. I mean. This is the first year I didn't really care. I mean, they weren't bad but they weren't exactly spectacular. Who really voted for them thinking they're the best? I guess it's 2012 in Baku? lol. That will make a pretty hilarious/awesome t-shirt. More so than Dusseldorf, I wager. Oh well. Good for them. I like it when the smaller countries win and they're clearly excited about the win.

Sweden was okay to me. I like the mindless pop entries a lot but usually when they win they have a really grand performance behind them. I didn't really get that from him. Overall this year was sort of lacking. I hope next year we get some really stand out entries.
