People are strangely surprised to find I have a good deal of heterosexual fandom fixations. Maybe because I only write femslash fanfic? I do squee over my straight OTP's in tv shows, movies, comics, and books that I love I just don't bother to write stories for them and it feels wrong for me to slash some of the females in those couples even though I have mad fangirl crushes on them. Among the heterosexual couples I love includes Henry VIII/Jane Seymour on The Tudors.
Don't get me wrong, I loved Anne Boleyn as played by Natalie Dormer and ultimately she was a victim of her father's ambitions and how he raised her essentially warping her personality to the point where nothing she had was ever enough. That being said, Anne was something of a schemer, she schemed from the start, and I did love her as I love bad girls but Jane Seymour's emergence in S2 was like a breath of fresh air as she's the complete and utter opposite of Anne in that respect. Out of all of Henry VIII's wives, Jane was the least educated, and she was said to have the sweetest and most gentle nature.
Before she died, she reconciled Henry with his daughter, Mary, and restored her to the line of succession right after Jane and Henry's son, Edward, and she was also in the process of doing the same for Elizabeth but ultimately succumbed to fever shortly after Edward's christening and dies. I'm overall not a fan of the good girls, they tend to bore and be preachy in their righteousness but Jane isn't that way. She just comes off very sincere and kind and just a good person. Her father and brother, certainly see the advantage of having her married to the King of England and I'm sure she sees it as well but what little meddling Jane does isn't for self promotion, it just seems for general peace of Henry's family and his kingdom. She only sought the restoration of Mary to favor, then working on the same for Elizabeth, and as a secret Catholic, wished Henry to not destroy the Abbey's.
To put it simply, I loved Anne Boleyn but dude, I'm such a Jane Seymour fangirl. lol. I would write fanfic for her but I can't slash her with anyone and I can't see her cheating on Henry anyway, she's so sweet.
Anita Briem who played Jane in S2 was recast by Annabelle Wallis for S3, and I'm not really sure why, rumors say she had scheduling conflict due to movies or that she was unwilling to do a nude scene. Either way, I liked Annabelle quite a bit as Jane Seymour and she kept up that same shy and innocent air that Anita established without having the character come off irritating which isn't the easiest thing to achieve.
Jane had a lot of great scenes in the premiere but my favorites had to be when she asked Lady Rochford to be her head lady in waiting and then when she found out Henry refused to pay for new clothes for Elizabeth who had outgrown the ones she currently had, saying he wasn't even sure she was really his daughter so why should he pay, Jane gave Lady Rochford the jewelry Henry presented to her on their wedding day, telling her to deliver it to Elizabeth's governess so she could use it for new clothing. The scene where Jane asks Henry about Mary and forgiving her then he threatens her and then refuses to talk to her because he's disappointed she's not pregnant shows that after Anne he's not so inclined to be kind to his wives. Not that he ever really was but it twinges a bit more with Jane since she's such a genuinely good person.
Here are some of the Jane related scenes from episode one. For some reason the person who made the video randomly writes text over the video at certain points and it's highly annoying.
Plus a kick ass promo about three of the wives showing up for this season!
I'm a bit surprised they'll get to Katherine Howard so soon. I doubt they'll show her execution in S3 though. The fact she was kind of a ho is too juicy to use it all up in S3. Besides, a big reason she slept around was Henry became an out of shape fat slob who was much older than her and he's not yet to that point. lol. Though I wonder if they'll let pretty boy Jonathan Rhys Meyers get all disgusting looking even if it's historically accurate.
I kind of hope the show keeps going even after Henry's death after his marriage to the last wife, Catherine Parr. I'm not sure how interesting it will be to watch Prince Edward's reign considering he was nine when he took over but his feuding with Mary should be compelling. Lord knows Bloody Mary destroying all the church reformations when she takes power will be good tv and everybody loves them some Elizabeth I.
