Showtime On Demand allows me to watch The Tudors one week ahead of time.
Jane Seymour dies in this episode after giving birth to Prince Edward. It was seriously sad. Because I'm such a lame ass I do cry at television, movies, books, comics, anything with heavy emotional context I become a totally wussy and start crying. Thus I cried when Henry begged Jane not to leave him and she dies shortly after of the puerperal fever which is how Henry's own mother died.
The speech Henry gives about how Jane is everything good in the world and it will be a dark horrible place without her was just heartbreaking and it made me believe despite his total inability to have fidelity in a marriage he did love her in his own way. Plus the whole episode leading up to that point just enforced how good they were as a couple because Jane, well, I guess she knew her place and she knew what was appropriate and how she needed to be to maintain a good relationship with Henry and in response he was the sweetest person around her which is rather out of character for him at this point in history.
Onto my Jane Seymour/Mary Tudor subtext fixation though. She asked Mary to be present when she went in labor with Edward and Mary stayed with her during the whole ordeal which nearly killed her and she had Mary bring her the rosary that was owned by Queen Catherine, Mary's mother, and they both prayed with it and Mary said her mother was surely looking over Jane to keep her safe. When Jane dies Mary is clearly broken up about it, just as much as Henry, but she doesn't get as much screentime of course.
What else? Oh! Mary is sharing a bed with her little sister Elizabeth whom apparently Jane got Henry to take back at court. It was horrifically cute. Especially when Mary tries to explain to Elizabeth that Edward is of higher importance because he's the precious male heir and Elizabeth just scoffs and says she doesn't think that's true. It sort of cracked me up to hear a five year old say that when she goes onto become one of the most bad ass powerful Queens in history, you know? Heh.
Anyway! I totally want to write my sad Mary crushes on Jane and reflects on her love for her after her death fic now. I just need to work out a decent plot for it and pick a suitably angsty song to use lyrics for the title as that's my habit.
