I saw the new Star Trek movie and I have a few things I would like to fangirl gush about.
For some reason I didn't know this movie was being set up as an alternate universe/prequel. I knew prequel since it's the start of their careers in Starfleet but I didn't know alternate universe. I was really happy with how they set up the AU concept and it works so well and it leaves them totally open for a shiny new franchise.
Bones and Kirk are such the fucking slash ship for this movie. I've always loved Bones best and he's long since been part of the lesser ships with either Kirk or Spock since Kirk/Spock is the big OTP original slash couple but this movie is all about Kirk/Bones slash pairing, imho, and it so works. They've got the cutest hilarious antagonist best buddies relationship and I was cracking up during the sequence where Bones kept injecting Kirk with random hyposprays as Kirk's medical condition worsened as he ran around the ship.
Karl Urban is the prettiest pretty that ever prettied as Bones. I love him above all others in this movie.
I've never watched Heroes, not one fucking episode, so the only thing I know about Zachary Quinto is how fangirls wank over him. I loved him as Spock and with Winona Ryder all aged awesomely in their scenes, they looked like they could be mother and son.
Uhura gave off an unusual feeling of competency in this movie and I like her with Spock romantically. Actually, strike that, I love them together as a couple and they had a nice chemistry despite Spock's whole Vulcans severely repress their emotions thing. I'm digging that Kirk doesn't get ALL the girls in the universe and it's hilarious she totally spurns him for Spock. Plus you can see she loves him and Spock gives the same impression. I know fangirls will hate on Uhura and she'll be the subject of much bashing in forums and fanfics for the Kirk/Spock shippers which sucks because, like I said, in the movie (unlike the original tv show) she gives off a weird impression of being useful instead of just being eye candy. I say Kirk/Bones shippers support Uhura/Spock big time.
Chekov and his accent are the funniest fucking thing in the whole movie. I defy anyone to not laugh at his initial shipwide announcement scene.
Sulu and his fencing are bad ass.
Red shirt was replaced with red spacesuit and man did that poor guy burn up something awesome. My rather warped self was pleased to see that any extra in red who gets sent on an away mission will still be utterly doomed, even in this shiny new universe.
Scotty isn't in the movie enough but when he is he's nearly as fan favorite awesome as Bones. Though I admit, Karl Urban's sheer pretty will keep Bones forever as my favorite in this movie. Along with his hilarious portrayal of the character which was just completely perfect.
Captain Pike in a wheelchair! Brain slug! Oh god, awesome, gross! Captain Pike is made of win from start to finish.
Eric Bana makes a good villain. Never trust those shifty Romulans.
Chris Pine was a superb bit of casting, he's spot on as Kirk and incredibly lovable and charming in the role.
Leonard Nimoy rules all.

Haha, I'm not much for the dude love ships, but hey, whatever people like. xD
I loved Scotty so much, but then he's always been totally awesome in every single series or movie he's been in.
All the actors just seemed so perfect for their roles, I am going to be seeing this movie again before it's out of theaters I'm sure. :)
Did Nimoy not get the most epic credit ever? Spock Prime! I loved that little bit there.
Anyways, movie is awesomesauce, love it! :D

P.S. The scene with Uhuru's roommate - what did you expect me to say? :P
