RIP: Guiding Light

Despite my adamant refusal to watch the show and to be sucked into the Otalia ship I do feel a bit bad for fans of said ship when I read that Guiding Light has been canceled. The cynic in me said that the lesbian storyline would somehow end up with badness because lets face it, nothing is ever totally happy and perfect in soaps thus causing fans to bitch about something, but I didn't expect the show to get canceled. Then again, maybe I should have. Days Of Our Lives is rumored to be on the chopping block, it barely got renewed this year as it is and similar things have been said about my precious All My Children. I wish they would cancel the pit of dreck that is General Hospital already.

Then there's this bit of gossip that has Crystal Chappell and Jessica Leccia being offered parts on All My Children. Since they play both halves of Otalia the suspicion is to somehow transfer the Olivia and Natalia characters from Guiding Light over to the All My Children universe. Which... okay, I get people love them and that's great and if this happens I'll watch because I watch AMC constantly no matter what but honestly part of my refusal to get into the ship is my lack of interest in the characters.

I'll be slightly peeved if they magically import lesbian characters from another soap into AMC and give them better writing than Bianca has gotten since she came out in 2000. That's almost a slap in the face to Eden and all her work on the show. But most likely if they did get imported AMC would just fuck them up like they fuck up Bianca's storylines soooo... hahaha. But it would be funny to see people who disdained AMC over the quality of GL then look to AMC to save their almighty better written lesbian couple.

Either way I love One Life To Live the most these days. It's made of awesome.

Maybe AMC introduces lesbians so they can destroy them. AMC is that kid at the beach who makes sand castles and then gleefully stomps all over them. (Wait, never mind, that kid can probably write better.)

I've been watching soaps for like twenty years and for some reason I can't get into the shows on other networks. I tried watching Another World when Roger Howarth (the original Todd Manning OLTL) was first on but the storyline was boring. So I don't really know about this ship, is it worth trying to catch up on?

I don't know... I've refused to watch the show or learn about the ship because I have no interest in soaps not on ABC. Sooo, lol. I'm not really the person to ask about that.

Certainly a lot of people like this ship, enough have pimped the couple to me to try and get me to write fanfic. I just don't have any interest in GL and I don't find half of the ship attractive hence my lack of interest in it.

But the since show has been canceled so the couple is over in that sense because I really doubt they'll be able to do the character import. I don't think that's ever happened with characters from other network soaps. Just within the same networks.

I swear to fucking G-d if Otalia ends up on AMC, I will burn down ABC Studios. I will NOT know how to deal with AMC giving Otalia the storyline BAM should've truly gotten. No fucking way.

It would peeve me too and I wasn't a fan of BAM in the slightest. I've never had much interest in Otalia but I love Bianca's character to death and it just would suck immensely she gets passed over for them in terms of getting good stories. Especially since she's the longtime character with tons of history in the show that is pretty much loved by all the fans.

Then again, I'm highly skeptical that this will happen. I've never heard of characters being transferred from one soap to another when the characters and shows are from different networks. I've seen it happen on shows on all the same network but not different ones. Though my memory could be lapsing.

Oh, no, you're right. This type of precedent has never happened before, but with the future of soaps in jeopardy, who knows how the tides could turn?

That's true. I rather have imports from Days if it dies than GL though but that's my preference for their more over the top stunts. If it does happen it'll be such a slap if they give Otalia the attention Bianca has deserved all these years. Suck ass.
