OMG, you guyyyys! I finally saw the Nanoha movie.

It's a perfect encapsulation of everything that's fabulous about the first season of Nanoha. I mean, it's nothing you haven't seen before if you've seen the first season but, dude, rarely have I seen such a good job in condensing a tv series into a movie. I cannot wait for the 2nd movie which will focus on my favorite season, A's, which features the awesomeness of Hayate.

And, okay, maybe it's just me being filled with squee but it seemed like that end scene with Nanoha and Fate was doubly romantic in the movie. Plus the fight scenes! Fate, why are you so sad and so bad ass? Because you're awesome and this series is awesome, that's why.

Download links here! Witness Fate being bad ass! See Nanoha blow shit up! Watch Fate brood awesomely! Witness Nanoha sigh over Fate's pretty eyes! Haha. I'm done now. But really, it is great. Please watch.

But if you haven't actually seen Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha it's, well, a magical girl series but it's not your average magical girl series. It does have the stereotypes of cute magical animals and slow-mo transformation sequences but those are few and far between. What it does have, which I think that matters the most, is fantastic characters and compelling storylines. The fight sequences are something not to be believed. These characters are in third grade but their fights are downright ruthless and the way they're animated is just beautiful.

The first season follows Nanoha, a regular third grade girl, who happens upon Yuuno Scrya (in his ferret form) injured and with an intelligent device, which allows the user to perform magic, called Raising Heart. He's searching for the jewel seeds also called the lost logia, incredibly dangerous magical artifacts that are spread across the world. Nanoha, who has latent magical ability, agrees to help Yuuno after seeing the danger that the jewel seeds present.

Along the way she meets Fate, a young mage with a mysterious and tortured past, who is also after the jewel seeds. Because they're both seeking the same thing this leads to obvious conflict and many awesome fight scenes between Fate and Nanoha, especially since Fate refuses to divulge why she wants the jewel seeds to Nanoha despite Nanoha constantly begging Fate to talk to her about it. Nanoha, nevertheless, seems to fall for Fate at first sight and spends a lot of time musing about Fate and her pretty but sad and lonely eyes.

The writing and characterization is seriously compelling and I can't imagine people not liking this series, it's so well done. Fate's background and characterization in particular is wonderful.

I SO wanna see this.

So Nanoha/Fate is still intact? Yay! I was worried they'd change it.

It's basically a condensed version of the first season. Everyone is in character and all the major events from season one are there. They even added in some new flashback sequences for Fate, Alicia, and Precia.

Fate/Nanoha was in full effect.

HUrrah! :)

Fear not, they pretty much turned it up to 11, especially at the end. As an added bonus, the Devices now manage to speak in correct English sentences, too... (It's just a shame that Bardiche's voice isn't as awesome as before. IMO he's a little high-pitched and lacks that delicious relish when yelling "FIRE!")

I'll have to look for that when I watch again. I still grin everytime Bardiche calls Fate "sir" though. I'm not sure why it amuses me so.

Graf Eisen is my favorite magical device. He's so enthusiastic! lol.

Oh, what's not to like about pump-action magic wands that speak German?

I think Bardiche is still my favourite overall, not least for the bits in A's where he and Laevantin are complimenting one another while they fight. (Bardiche/Laevantin cargo ship, anyone? :)

Bardiche/Laevatein is totally a legitimate ship. Certainly Bardiche wouldn't want to be with a magical device as crazy as Raising Heart.

Dude. lol. That's awesome! I'm going to read that whole comic now.

Some of it's variable, but sometimes it just plain rocks. :)
