Scrivener has a brand new update available for free for everyone who bought it after August 2010 and for just $25 if you got it before that. Also! For those who don't know of Scrivener and are Windows users, at long last they have a beta version of Scrivener for Windows.

It's honestly the best writing program I've ever used and has so many useful components from the outliner, the new collections option which allows you to organize character notes/first drafts/plots, and the import webpage option for research. There's also a neat new quick reference window which lets you open up external documents for additional research in a smaller window so you can remain in the writing program. I completely recommend this program for anyone who does any substantial amount of writing.

My brother is in law school (he graduates in May) and he was doubtful about the usefulness of this program until he downloaded it. Now he adores it because it makes organization so much simpler for his massive research papers.

There's more than a few stories out there about a world where men are a rarity. Something happened somehow and now they're next to extinct or they're completely gone from the planet Earth. Women have moved into the traditionally male gender roles while men are treasured and hidden away because without them the ability to reproduce and propagate the human race would cease.

Ooku: The Inner Chambers is one such story. )

I'm a music whore and as such I love all types of music. This includes classical and opera though I know nothing about the history behind the pieces or their famous composers, conductors, and musicians. Even if you're someone who doesn't like classical music Nodame Cantabile is a manga which can explain and express the love many people feel for it. Something that's hard to do in a print medium.

Nodame Cantabile revolves around the lives of classical musicians. )

I've been trying to recommend manga that are lesser known, not super popular, whatever you call it, in order to bring them whatever meager attention my friendslist creates to get more people reading. Skip Beat isn't any of those things. It's pretty damn popular without me doing my puny thing here but I don't care how many fangirls and boys Skip Beat has, it deserves a thousand times more. The manga is just that awesome people.

Skip Beat is a shoujo manga with the coolest female protagonist of all time. )

I love a good mystery but I admit, I'm somewhat dim when it comes to figuring them out on my own. I suspect that I tend to turn my brain off a lot when I get into my personal entertainment and thus I'm almost always surprised when I read murder/mystery stories. There aren't nearly enough good murder/mystery manga out there, imho, and I really wish there were more. Out of the few that we do have released and translated into English I think Kindaichi Case Files is amongst the best.

Kindaichi Case Files is a shonen murder/mystery whodunnit series. )

I read lots and lots of manga. I've decided to do some recommendations and reviews on some of the manga I'm currently reading maybe once a week or every other week. Most of my interest lies in romance so a good deal of these series will be shoujoai. I will let you know before the LJ cut what the series is about theme wise. I'll also be going a bit into plot with each entry just because I don't think it's possible to give a sense of the series if you don't.

Kimi ni Todoke is shoujoai and fluffy and just heart warming. )
