My brother is departing for Law School at American University in the beginning of August. His PowerBook has been acting up for quite awhile now because it's almost four years old and has been running through all his undergrad college years as his main computer. Playing World of Warcraft on a laptop for several years and leaving the laptop plugged in constantly doesn't exactly help extend the life of the computer but oh well, what can you do? College student and such.
Anyway! Because of these issues he's been wanting to get a new computer for when he goes off to law school and just use his laptop to take to class and the library for research. Being deemed the nerdy computer person in the family I was asked to go with my mother and him to the Mac store today. My mom paid for the computer but I'm writing her check for half the amount as it's going to be his early early early Christmas present from us.
Dude.
I have no idea why but I completely forgot the new iPhone came out today for purchase. I have no idea how this happened seeing as I have the current iPhone and because of that Mac has been emailing since they announced a new version release once a week to remind me I must be that much of a Mac addict to upgrade my phone just for faster interwebs access no matter the fact I get ten extra bucks tacked onto my wireless bill and no unlimited texting. Bah. I'll keep my current dinosaur iPhone thank you very much.
Though I do covet my brother's new iMac. Which is odd since it just has a faster processor than mine and is only a few months newer. I have 2.4 GHZ and his is 2.66 GHZ. Maybe because it seems shinier. My iMac, before I did a complete reboot, was doing this odd thing where it randomly turned itself off. Sucked ass. It seems to be fixed now.
Point of this story? None really but I shall do my best to fucking remember when there is a big release of shiny new toys I decide to visit the Mac store. Yeesh. They had a line that went almost to entrance of our mall and the Mac store is practically in the center. I was greatly amused by the two police officers they had stationed at the door. We were put into a smaller "non-iPhone customer" line to wait to come in.
Why must people have shiny new toys right away? I like to wait for the bugs to be worked out. I mean, I admit I get obsessive about seeing certain movies on their release date, such as The Dark Knight, but it doesn't seem wise to buy brand new technology on the day it comes out. Leave a bit of time for improvement.
