Lets face it, the new Star Wars movies sucked. There's no two ways around it. They were bad, just painfully bad at times. But Darths & Droids takes that suckiness and transforms it into pure funny. I love this comic and I'm someone who knows very little about old school roleplaying games.

Simple way to put it? Jar Jar is hilarious in this comic. Jar Jar. I'm super serial you guys. Go read it!

There's more than a few stories out there about a world where men are a rarity. Something happened somehow and now they're next to extinct or they're completely gone from the planet Earth. Women have moved into the traditionally male gender roles while men are treasured and hidden away because without them the ability to reproduce and propagate the human race would cease.

Ooku: The Inner Chambers is one such story. )

I'm a music whore and as such I love all types of music. This includes classical and opera though I know nothing about the history behind the pieces or their famous composers, conductors, and musicians. Even if you're someone who doesn't like classical music Nodame Cantabile is a manga which can explain and express the love many people feel for it. Something that's hard to do in a print medium.

Nodame Cantabile revolves around the lives of classical musicians. )

I've been trying to recommend manga that are lesser known, not super popular, whatever you call it, in order to bring them whatever meager attention my friendslist creates to get more people reading. Skip Beat isn't any of those things. It's pretty damn popular without me doing my puny thing here but I don't care how many fangirls and boys Skip Beat has, it deserves a thousand times more. The manga is just that awesome people.

Skip Beat is a shoujo manga with the coolest female protagonist of all time. )

I love a good mystery but I admit, I'm somewhat dim when it comes to figuring them out on my own. I suspect that I tend to turn my brain off a lot when I get into my personal entertainment and thus I'm almost always surprised when I read murder/mystery stories. There aren't nearly enough good murder/mystery manga out there, imho, and I really wish there were more. Out of the few that we do have released and translated into English I think Kindaichi Case Files is amongst the best.

Kindaichi Case Files is a shonen murder/mystery whodunnit series. )

I read lots and lots of manga. I've decided to do some recommendations and reviews on some of the manga I'm currently reading maybe once a week or every other week. Most of my interest lies in romance so a good deal of these series will be shoujoai. I will let you know before the LJ cut what the series is about theme wise. I'll also be going a bit into plot with each entry just because I don't think it's possible to give a sense of the series if you don't.

Kimi ni Todoke is shoujoai and fluffy and just heart warming. )

I've lived a lot of places and had a lot of landlords. Most of my horror stories involve some roommates and a lot of asshole neighbors in apartment complexes and generally unsafe ghetto neighborhoods. I'm glad despite all my various woes in this department I never dealt with a landlord like Gary: The Landlord of the Flies.

Read this blog, all of it, there's not a lot so far but what's there is highly amusing.

I hate Jane Austen but I love horror movies and novels and campy silly things. Therefore I'm greatly intrigued by the novel Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. To quote...

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies features the original text of Jane Austen's beloved novel with all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie action. As our story opens, a mysterious plague has fallen upon the quiet English village of Meryton—and the dead are returning to life! Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to wipe out the zombie menace, but she's soon distracted by the arrival of the haughty and arrogant Mr. Darcy. What ensues is a delightful comedy of manners with plenty of civilized sparring between the two young lovers—and even more violent sparring on the blood-soaked battlefield as Elizabeth wages war against hordes of flesh-eating undead.

I want this book as a late birthday present as I remain perpetually poor. I will be forever grateful for this looks to be made of awesome. The only way I could possibly love it more is if someone made it into a film. I would be all over that.

I live in the Midwest and we normally get much snow in the winter. This season has been unusually mild but I love cold weather and I like snow, I just prefer not driving in it. As much as I love winter I'm not a fan of winter sports. The only sports I've ever played are soccer and roller derby. I've always been freaked by the idea of ice skating and skiing.

My issue with skiing is simple. You go down big ass hills and sometimes mountains on two little twiggy sticks then you expect not to die in the process. Logic fails me in this sport and I rather play roller derby and skate around smashing into other girls and pretend to be super hero bad ass with my roller derby name L.Ron Haggard. Yeah, not a fan of Scientology.

Anyway! A skier in Vail was left hanging upside down with his pants off on a ski lift. I'm a mean person, it made me laugh. They also have pictures of the poor guy showing his naked and presumably freezing ass to the world.

Just for the fun of it, here's another article. The porn industry is seeking a federal bail out. I'm not sure if the coolness factor of Congress would increase or decrease if they did this. It would increase with me but probably decrease with the theoretical conservative majority we have in this country.

Though I wonder why porn needs bailing out? People love porn. It's probably because you can get it free all over the interwebs so there's no reason to pay for it anymore. YouPorn, hello!

I'm one of those people who loves Twilight because it's made to be sporked. I'm a huge fan of things that are so bad they're good and oh boy, does this novel series qualify. That being said, I did sort of do a sad fangirl squee when I found out it's being made into a manga.

Dear god why do you ask?

Mostly because I'm a sad shoujo fangirl. I admit it. I'll probably die an old lady with tons of fucking manga that have the same sorry plot and I'll keep reading them and loving them and insisting because of this minute character or plot difference the stories are SO not the same! Except they really are.

Twilight is painfully bad sporkable funny as a novel but when it's made into a manga? I hate to admit it but it becomes the essence of everything that I love in a shoujo manga. I'm curious to see how Edward sparkles in black and white format though. Hmm. It puzzles. And you know what makes my shoujo obsession even sadder? The fact that I'm a big ole lesbian and have zero interest in men sexually and romantically but all these fucking manga I obsess over are almost 100% totally heterosexual romance.

Lame. It's so lame of me. I can't help it though, I just like me some romance.

I know it might not seem like it these days but I'm still a huge manga nerd and today I happened upon a great Japanese web comic that was later published and is currently being made into an anime. What's the series?

Axis Powers Hetalia which is basically about various hilarious and mostly bishonen characters who embody an assortment of countries and the comic tells the story of famous events in world history through their interactions. It's really funny if you're not overly politically correct since there is a good amount of stereotyping involved. Not mean stereotyping but more like, England can't cook food stereotyping, America has a huge ego, and Russia is hella pretty but totally insane. Maybe Russia one is mean. I dunno. lol.

I love the series and have spent a few hours already reading through the scanlated comics HERE. The only thing I have to dispute is the fact that America is a bishonen guy wearing cute wire rim glasses. Dude! Come on, America is so much butcher than that.

I do love his relationship with England though. They have such an angry love. Hee. And yes, I'm already enough of a fangirl of America and England that I had to make an icon out of them fighting in disgustingly cute chibi form. America doesn't have his glasses on as he declares freedom though. I like him better that way.

Despite my jobless status as I still endlessly wait for my FBI background check to be completed I'm glad I'm not working retail right now. Black Friday is misery piled upon misery and in Long Island a Wal-Mart employee died after being trampled by crazy ass Black Friday shoppers.

I hate customers during Christmas. They're such self-entitled fuckwads. I do all of my holiday shopping online to avoid human interaction. Which is definitely the result of having worked in customer service for so long.

Sometimes Cracked genuinely does crack me up. Then again, I do find delight in laughing at the lameness of the nerdy things I love. Such as really fucking bad fanfic. Check out their article on the The 5 Most Baffling Sex Scenes in the History of Fanfiction for it is filled with the funny.
