I'll be on Femslash 4 Fans tomorrow. It's a talk about All My Children and Bianca before the show goes off the air this Friday. The show is airing live on the interwebs on September 22nd at 9 pm CST. Here's the official information about it. Please listen or call in and share my sad fangirling.
End of an (Increasingly Femslashy) Era - "All My Children"
Two weeks ago we talked about femslash from Harry Potter, in the wake of the conclusion of seven books AND eight movies. Tonight we move on to a different kind of ending, the involuntary kind. For five decades the ABC daytime drama "All My Children" ran five days a week, fifty-two weeks a year, with some of the most recognizable actors in soap operas. It tackled important, controversial social issues when few others would - abortion, HIV, transgender, etc. Perhaps the most well-known example of this was when Bianca Montgomery, cherished daughter of central character Erica Kane, came out of the closet to her mother. Since then Bianca went on to have a slew of relationships with other women - Frankie, Lena, Maggie, Reese, and so on - all of which seemed to end in heartbreak. Now that fans have started to fall in love with the newest pairing of Bianca and Marissa, however, ABC announced that All My Children would be cancelled in favor of more reality programming. Granted, it's going to have a second life on the Internet, but it's too early to know what kind of changes we're going to see. In light of the fact that AMC is about to air its last episode on commercial television ever, we're spending the show talking about not only the history of Bianca's love life on AMC, but also our reactions to the cancellation and our fondest and least-favorite memories from the show. I'll be joined once again by Dreiser, as well as fellow fans Jetgirl and past guest QQSuited.
