I'm on a Guns N Roses kick. Particularly their double disc live cd which has some fabulous performances. Particularly the songs I've chosen. I'm a huge fan of Estranged. It's one of their lesser known songs but it's beautiful, especially live and extended with a more symphonic component.

Estranged (Live) by Guns N Roses

You Could Be Mine (Live) by Guns N Roses

My Michelle (Live) by Guns N Roses

Like everyone else in the universe, I love Glee, but it's making me into more of a music whore if that's possible. Before this latest episode I was perfectly happy to consider Kelly Clarkson as the one exception to my rule of hating everything that has anything to do with American Idol. Now I've got to include Carrie Underwood after hearing Kristin Chenoweth doing a cover of her song, Last Name, on the latest episode. Oh yes, and how much do I want Kristin to come back? Please lord, let her come back for another episode. She was so good.

Here's the original for download. As a rule I tend to dislike the new pop version of country but I dig this song and her album Carnival Ride a lot. I'm a fan of powerful voices and upbeat songs though. Plus fiddling.

Morrissey and The Smiths are traditionally angsty music, yes? But for some reason I'm always in a good mood when I listen to them. They make me feel cheery, despite the depressing method of singing and the lyrics, I'm happy as a clam when listening to their music. Whatever happy as a clam means. It's certainly not happy like the clams that get eaten by the walrus in that Alice In Wonderland side story.

Oh wait. Those were oysters. Whatever though.

I'm not sure I listen to a specific artist when depressed though. I don't get depressed very often so maybe that has to do with it? Whenever my friend Rachel plays anything by Kate Bush we know she's going through some form of a meltdown. I sort of dread hearing Strange Phenomena because of this.

Anyway! Have a musical quirk to share? I'm posting this because I've been listening to Morrissey/The Smiths for like... two hours nonstop and I'm so fucking cheerful. lol. It's odd, I know!

I saw the movie finally and it was really entertaining. I love horror movies with comedy and it's a step above just being a funny b-movie. I'm not really a huge fan of Megan Fox but she was great in her role and Amanda Seyfried is always wonderful. It was really quite awesome how Jennifer and Needy's relationship was the center of the film. However, I suspect Jennifer was way more in love with Needy than the reversal.

For those who loved the movie I offer Jennifer's Body by Hole for download.

Or at least it seems like that. First we had Whitney Houston's two part interview on Oprah which was fabulous just because of the sheer honesty involved on Whitney's part. Then we had Cyndi Lauper on Bones last night which made me squee out loud. She was great as the psychic. I include her in this post since I love her to death but to be frank she's probably not really considered a diva. But Cyndi is made of awesome and so was her acting on Bones so I include her.

And then there's today which had Mariah Carey performing the second single from her new album Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel on Oprah. The album comes out September 29th.

Now, I love Whitney and I was super excited about her new album but I have to admit I'm more excited about Mariah's. Out of all the diva category singers Mariah is probably my favorite. I love her even when she's acting cracky insane. She's always entertaining as hell in her interviews and is really funny. Plus she has more #1 hits than any other artist in the USA. Anyway! Her new single enforced my love because it's a cover of I Want To Know What Love Is by Foreigner and it's one of those versions where the song almost seems brand new because of how it's done. So good, people.

For anyone who's a Mariah fan like me, please watch it on Oprah.com because she gives a perfect performance. Normally I'd embed the video but they don't give the option on the site. Oprah doesn't want to share!

I like sharing though, which is why I'm offering a random download of I Didn't Mean To Turn You On by Mariah Carey which was my favorite cover by her until she came out with the latest track.

Including one of my favorite songs Living Next Door To Alice (Who The Fuck Is Alice) by Smokie. Click on the previous link to download the original song and this link to download the dance mix. I always planned on incorporating this song into one of my L Word fanfics featuring Alice but I never got around to it. Should've done it though, it would've been funny and I can see her really appreciating the use of her name in the song.

Whitney Houston's new album, I Look To You, fills me with happy and thus I offer it for download. Tentatively knowing the dates of Wondercon 2010 (April 2-4) and thinking about the potential fun of that trip fills me with more happy. And finally, this this episode of I'm A Marvel, I'm A DC cracks me up, which is yet more happy, makes me want to buy Deadpool and Rorschach figures, and caused me to create the Rorschach icon for this post.

Sophie, why you gotta be so fabulous? It's the three names, isn't it? I'm sure it is. Anyway. I'm dying for your next album to come out and am pretending to talk to you like a crazy person on LJ since I made an icon of you. I'll stop now before I freak out my friendslist. This song/video made me finally get the new Freemasons album.

More on hold music. I'm also adding a random mp3. I'll probably keep doing that and most of them will most likely be sung in a language other than English as I tend to collect a lot of random international music.

Mississippi: Barracuda by Heart

Colorado: Alive And Kicking by Simple Minds

Random MP3: Hall Om Mig by Nanne Gronvall

My job as a medical investigator often has me placed on hold and while I'm on hold I listen to a variety of songs. I figured that I would start posting once a week with mp3s people can download of the songs I was placed on hold with. Here's a few to get started.

North Carolina: The Tide Is High by Blondie

California: Copacabana by Barry Manilow

Colorado: Star Wars Imperial March

Colorado: Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel

Texas: The Winner Takes It All by Abba

Rhode Island: You Oughta Know by Alanis Morissette

Tennessee: Walk On Water by Ozzy Osbourne

Florida: Everlasting Love by Gloria Estefan

I couldn't sleep last night and I ended up watching the BET Awards which were the opposite of what MTV Awards and MTV has morphed into for the past few years. Meaning it had tons and tons of music and live performances. The best of which, imho, was this performance by Jay Z. Although, dude, Beyonce singing Ave Maria? Holy shit. lol. That's just awesome.

I've been listening to We Built This City by Starship on repeat for the past hour. I'm not exactly sure why besides I'm weird and I love lame things.

It's like this sometimes where I fixate on something and I can't let go of it. A few weeks ago I was listening to Journey nonstop. I suspect Cinderella is next or maybe Ratt. Who knows. Here's the video for the song for the hell of it. The link above lets you download the song so you too can experience the badness.

I think most everyone on my friendslist loves the new Star Trek movie and that being so, I thought maybe they might appreciate a few songs from my favorite Star Trek tribute band, Warp 11, who are just made of so much win. If you like the songs I give you then I encourage you to buy their cds because really, everything they do is fucking awesome.

I have gay man musical interests at times. I was listening to Whyyawannabringmedown by Kelly Clarkson which has the hilariously angry sounding lyric I'm not your love monkey which caused me to immediately make an icon of Kelly using it which you can see above. Anyway. After doing this I felt compelled to look up Kelly live performances on YouTube and one thing led to another and before I know it I'm amassing a favorites list of live performances of the diva kind.

My musical fixation with British rapping continues. Missy Elliot shows up a lot of places. I thought couldn't love her more for being on a Ruslana track but this is pretty damn good too.

Eurovision ruled as usual. Here goes my rambling recap as I watched it live. Be warned, I love Eurovision like a crackhead loves crack and I'm already drinking as I watch this with friends. So be prepared for a lot of nonsense thoughts coming from my initial reactions to what I'm seeing on the screen.

Eurovision has started! Yay! I'll post with a ton of videos and my rambling recap later tonight or tomorrow depending on how speedy all the Eurovision fans are with uploading the live final performances on YouTube. In the meantime, have some free songs from my favorite entries to the contest. It's sad how much I fucking love Eurovision but whatever. I shall not be ashamed of my joy for it.

Ukraine: Be My Valentine (Anti-Crisis Girl) by Svetlana Loboda

Turkey: Dum Tek Tek (Boom Bang Bang) by Hadise

And this has nothing to do with Eurovision but I've been listening to Lady Sovereign's new album constantly lately so I figured I would share my favorite track of the moment which is So Human.
