Is the worst. I seem to habitually suffer from it. Usually I do my writing or I chat with random people but no one is online lately thus my insomnia seems worse/more boring than usual? lol. I dunno. I should take sleeping pills but I don't like how it effects my other meds.

Anywayyyy.

If you too are ever up late at night and bored (as I often am) please drop me a line on any chat program because you're certain to keep me occupied until I finally surrender to sleep.

Also? Started working on my Spencer/Aria fanfic. Such fun you guys.

I'll be there this weekend doing many nerdy fun things involving friends, booze, and sci-fi type stuff. There's going to be a panel on b-movies and such and I'm super excited for that. Anywayyyy, if you're from the STL/IL area and are going to be there then drop me a line. I plan on having a blast at the room parties and being amused while watching live action Quidditch.

Hahaha. Sorry. You'd have to be from Missouri, Illinois, or Iowa to get that joke. I think Minnesota too? Which is odd since that's nowhere close to the other locations. Anyway. Wehrenberg is a local chain of theaters here in STL which have their headquarters in Kansas City, MO. They've always been pretty cool but recently they've gotten so much better by enforcing a policy where people must turn off or put their cell phones on vibrate while in the movie theater. If they take a text or a call they have to leave the theater. If they instead decide to play on their phones during the movie they are removed from the theater without a refund.

This fills me with so much glee. Wehrenberg has always been good at their locations that allow alcohol about kicking out disruptive behavior but this just amplifies their already great service. I hate it when people fucking play on their phones during the movie. It's not like it's cheap to buy a ticket and you're fucking around on your phone instead of of paying attention to the movie you spent your money on? Plus it totally detracts from other peoples viewing experience and it's just a dick thing to do. I'm glad to see them take a stand against this.

I guess I'll be going to see Fright Night and Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark at a Wehrenberg theater. Wehrenberg was also where Katie and I went on the massive all day Harry Potter marathon that included free lunch and various other nerd related goodies. It was a fun experience.

I'll be there this weekend! Super fun, everybody. I can't wait. I haven't gone to an anime con in what seems like awhile although I know that's not the truth. Anyway, it should be awesome.

ETA: I got a message or two about my Pretty Little Liars fanfic. I don't care about the amount of reviews I get (in fact I loathe it when people hold fanfic hostage by demanding reviews or no updates so if I ever do that it's time to leave fandom and fanfic writing) but it's kind of a bummer to write for something that has no fandom. Mostly because I like to read other fics and I think reading other stories sometimes inspires you as well.

I probably will write another fic but I'm not sure. All the stories are self-contained anyway, which means they don't really need to be continued. I'm tired of leaving people disappointed with me by starting large chapter fics and never finishing them. Which is why I rather just do a single story that can stand on its own or can have a sequel. Now I should go to sleep since I need to leave for the airport at 6:30 am! lol. Ugh.

So I got my birthday present a week early from my family. A Kindle 3G which I wanted solely for the purpose of getting cheap eBooks to use for research for my various writing projects. I've had a story in the works for a few years now and recently came up with another one I really really really like a lot and involves a lot of heavy research.

I'm weirdly confident if I played my cards right and got lucky I could have a real chance of being legit published with these books and they might even turn out to be popular. They'd both be in the young adult category. That's only if I actually get off my butt and start writing them. Anyway. I downloaded forty five eBooks today just to research the new book idea I have. I spent a total of thirty six dollars which is crazy cheap. But seriously, if anyone got into my Kindle and looked at them all they'd probably give me a long side eye. lol. I mean, the category title is Myths/Fairy Tales/Folklore/Religions.

Some titles? Mysteria: History of the Secret Doctrines and Mystic Rites of Ancient Religions; Demonicial Possession, Dreams, Ghosts, Lucky & Unlucky Days, Horoscopes, Prognostications, Transformations & the Worship of Animals In Egyptian Majick; Field Guide to the Little People; Old French Fairy Tales...

You get the idea. Here's the thing, I wanted to research ancient religious rituals and practices but you wouldn't believe how hard it is to find books for that. You can find the religious stories themselves and myths but finding stuff that isn't like... super expensive about rituals and priests, priestesses, oracles, and seers is pretty hard. I also kept finding stuff on wiccans and paganism about me learning to embrace my inner goddess and no, I just want to know what sort of rituals you do. Not read a bunch about how I'm some sort of wood nymph.

Whatever though. I'm super pleased with all the spiffy research material I've gathered. Even if it makes me look like a theology student.

AKA the totally awesome and tragic development of Homura's character, explaining her bad ass love for Madoka and focusing on her greatness as a character in general. Seriously folks. I LOVE this anime. I'm going to be sad when it's over but each episode is better than the last. I mean, I don't tend to write much angst and tragedy but I do love it when it's done right and this anime does it right times one thousand.

Spent yesterday contacting my few friends who live in Japan. They're all right for the most part. Chris' apartment is submerged and he's had to leave his prefecture. He lives in Kesennuma which is also plagued with fires. If you want to donate to relief efforts I put my money with Mercy Corps who are collecting funds for Peace Winds Japan but any donations are good ones.

Moving onto less serious things, I randomly bought some sesame and honey candy by Joyva and it's the tastiest thing ever. Then again, I love things like that. Bit O Honey is a weird obsession of mine.

Katie's parents are in STL for the weekend and we went out to lunch with them. She's from this area outside of Green Bay called Hobart. Anyway, she was oddly nervous about us meeting and I wasn't sure why. She's been out of the closet since she was seventeen and her parents reaction was basically, "Oh. We already knew you were gay." And they're totally accepting PFlag type parents so I was a bit perplexed about it.

Then we meet up for lunch at Cicero's and suddenly it makes sense. Her dad is full out seriously wearing a wolf t-shirt. One of those hardcore ones with intense graphics to make the wolf look more bad ass and he's not wearing it as a joke. It's just that he actually likes it. I mean, I didn't react to it. Like laugh or make a weird face but I could totally sense Katie being like, she's laughing inside and I hate my gf for it, but lunch was fun. Her folks are really nice and funny and her dad is sort of like one of those mad scientist engineers and I now can see why Katie has that tendency. Plus her mom completely has Katie's deadpan "WTF are you stupid?" type of attitude so it was cool seeing where she gets those aspects of her personality from which really amuse me and make me love her.

Anyway! We're in the car after lunch and I can feel Katie glaring at me and I know it's about the wolf t-shirt but I say nothing then she just explodes.

Katie: He just likes wolves, okay?! He thinks they're cool! We don't say anything about it!
Me: I thought the wolf t-shirt looked very nice on him.
Katie: Fuck you. I knew you'd make fun of this.
Me: I didn't say anything! You're the one who brought it up.
Katie: He just likes wolf t-shirts.
Me: Does he volunteer at wolf sanctuaries?
Katie: I hate you.

So that was my afternoon. I'm not sure if Katie's mad at me but I didn't do anything you guys. It was all in MY HEAD but apparently Katie knows me well enough to resent my thoughts at this point. lol. Oh yeah, and for those curious, I think I found a picture of the wolf t-shirt in question online. This one looks pretty close to it except it was blue instead of black and the outline of the wolf jumping was like... glittery silver? Awesome.

I got a ton of awesome stuff (and I gave a lot of awesome stuff too) and I'm so nerdy I made a little montage full of pix of all my cool Christmas loot. I'm particularly enthused about my Star Wars hoodie. It is made of the awesome.

Apparently St. Louis is the most dangerous city in the United States. As a native who has lived all over the country and loves her hometown I find that a little... unbelievable. Ours isn't a large city so I'm not sure how we beat out cities like NYC, Detroit, Chicago, or LA. Anyway, dangerous or not I love STL and give the finger to that study.

Seriously you guys. So bored. I almost feel like poking Katie and waking her up just to have someone to talk to. I should work on fanfic but I don't feel like it. I just got done studying for three hours and I feel that's a good amount for one day but...

Also, has anyone seen The American Astronaut? It looks delightfully insane.

I had a random guy at work start talking to me about how Obama is a member of the Illuminati and how there are all these secret cures for cancer and other deadly diseases that only high ranking members of our government have access to. Also that Obama-care is an attempt to get the genetic code of everyone in our country. I zoned out while he was telling me why they want everyone's genetic code though. Funny thing is, he didn't look crazy really. Mostly he looked like an aging hippie. This is mostly due to the scraggly long hair past his shoulders and tie dye shirt.

Things like this are why I continue to perversely love working customer service jobs.

You know what I didn't need after a long day at work? Coming out to my car and having a pamphlet on the ex-gay movement pushed into my door by people who saw my rainbow pride window sticker and decided I needed to be educated about how to use the lord and savior Jesus Christ to magically make myself not a lesbian anymore.

Whoever left that pamphlet? I hope my gigantic "fuck you" is somehow psychically transmitted to your thoughts you bigoted douche. Maybe I'll get lucky and Jesus will do it.

I hateeeeee the summer. Fucking heat kills me but I love the fact that in the STL there's a ton of great orchestral concerts you can attend for cheap at super pretty venues. I'm psyched. Some might think it totally lame but tomorrow night I'm going to the Powell Symphony Hall to see Liza Minnelli perform with the St Louis Symphony Orchestra.

Yeah. I'm totally a gay man about some things.

Still working on the second Seeker fic. Going slowly but it's plotted out like a mofu.

I'll be making another brief cameo on [livejournal.com profile] allaine77's radio show Femslash 4 Fans this Thursday, May 27th, at 9 pm central standard time for a reunion show since it's been a year since he started this neat project. If you want to listen to me inanely prattle about fandom and fanfic, most likely my halfway plotted out new Seeker fic or the recasting of Bianca on All My Children, or call in and talk to me or just like post questions in the little chat window and tune in.

It's really hot here. I miss winter.

ETA: OMG! I just ordered a pair of new glasses from Global Eyeglasses online and I love them. Not only were the frames ridiculously cheap the hugest part of my optical bill my insanely hardcore prescription was only $200! I know that still seems pricey for some but seriously? I'm used to popping out $400 on the prescription alone and the version of cheap nice frames I like at Lenscrafters is $70 so this...? So fabulous. I totally recommend ordering from them. You just need your prescription and pupillary distance to make it all right with the world.

ETA x 2: I just went on YourFonts.com and made this font based on my own handwriting after reading about the hilarity of Twihards doing the same thing for RPattz. Is this readable? It's sad how cool I find this. lol. So nerdy.

So I went out yesterday for Cinco de Mayo. Pip reserved a table for a bunch of us at the Hacienda restaurant on Manchester which is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in St. Louis. Anyway! As fun as it is man people get fucking rowdy. Especially when they show up on the day of a major holiday and expect a table (without reserving one) and don't get one or have to wait hours.

Pip made our reservations a few months ago and they were holding the table for us when we showed up exactly on time at 8 pm and this woman pitched the most embarassing huge shitfit on why were we being seated and they had to wait however many hours. I don't know, maybe because we fucking planned ahead? I hate seeing behavior like that, it's just so juvenile. Especially from someone in their forties who should know better.

The night was fun though and they have great margaritas.

I've decided to take a miniature break from the Whip It fanfic series I've been writing to write another fanfic featuring a romantic relationship between Iron Maven and Eva Destruction that spurs jealousy in Bliss and Rosa Sparks which causes them to finally act on their own feelings for the two women. It's an idea that was suggested by [livejournal.com profile] jsword on the [livejournal.com profile] ruthlessmaven community and I think it's a simply fabulous concept for a fanfic.

I do have one more fanfic planned for the Ruthless/Maven series but I don't know if there is going to be anything else after that. I think after years and years of having original stories in my head and being too chickenshit and lazy I'm going to actually give writing one a try. Whether I can get it published by a legitimate source and have a real book agent show interest in me is debatal but fuck it. I'm over thirty. I've wanted to write books professionally since I was a kid and I'm finally going to actually try and see if I can get it done. I owe myself to try at least.

Since I'm a sadly lazy person I know I won't be able to keep up writing extensive fanfic series at the same time as an original project I see as a book trilogy in my head. I'm not going to stop writing fanfic. I love it too much for that but I won't be writing it on a regular basis and I don't predict anymore long fanfic series from me for awhile if at all.

Anyway! There's that if anyone cares.

I've been sick on and off for the past month. First it was that evil ear infection and now I've lost my voice (which happens once or twice a year to me without fail) and have a horrible cold. My birthday is on Thursday and my friends are doing something for me which entails taking Friday and Saturday off work. Saturday night my work friend, Brad, who is hilarious and loves horror movies as much as I do, is having his birthday party which I'm attending. I really hope I'm feeling better by then because not much fun to party while sickly.

Plus! On April 1st I leave for Wondercon to hang out with [livejournal.com profile] oneiric22 and I totally don't want to be sick at a super fun nerd convention in San Francisco.

For those mildly curious I'm about halfway through with my fourth Whip It fanfic in the ongoing Ruthless/Maven series. I'm going to try and have it done before I leave for Wondercon. I have tomorrow off work so hopefully I'll feel less miserable and will get some writing done.

I've had a massively evil ear infection since Saturday in my left ear. I can't hear anything out of it and it's constantly ringing. I could only get in to see my ear doctor about it today. He fixed me up with some meds which he told me to get at Schnucks since they'd be cheapest there (he was right $4 with my insurance co-pay, whee) and it takes twenty minutes for them to fill the script, right?

I strategically chose the Schnucks next to a Best Buy I frequent because scripts usually take some time to fill and I can easily waste countless hours at the big blue electronics chain because I'm nerdy like that. Anyway! I'm wandering through the dvd section and DUDE. They have all the seasons of South Park for just $18.99!

I'd totally buy them all if I didn't already own them. But if you want them, get them now, that's hella cheap.

ETA: South Park Season 13 is out on March 16th! That's awesome. I can spend all of Tuesday/Wednesday watching S13 before S14 starts up on Wednesday. It really is sad how much of a fangirl I am for this show. I just really love their fucked up satirical humor. That season was totally great though. Fishsticks, Pinewood Derby, Dead Celebrities, Margaritaville... just so many great episodes that were hilarious.
